The Elvenking looked up at a frantic pounding on his door. It flew open, and a breathless guard stood there. “My Lord! The dwarves - they have escaped!”
“Escaped? How?”
The guard gulped. “We think - we believe -they may have been in the barrels sent down to Laketown last night. Shall I send a patrol after them?”
“No!” The king paused. The prisoners had been a cursed nuisance, and in truth he was glad to see the back of them. “Leave them. Let them go. They will not return. But if they do, it will not be good for their health.”
