Disclaimer: All of Middle Earth is from the hand of Tolkien.  I own nothing.  I make no profit from the drabble.
Aaaaand I'm late again (hides).

It is funny, and not at all funny, what she feels she should remember, now that she understands, and what she never did.

Her memory of that day was fire in the sky. Nothing more.
Mother took them and ran. It was a game, she’d said. Stay quiet. Melwen told her this. Ivrian only remembered smoke scarring the sun.
The Eastrons had waited for the harvest. Untill the men left early for the fields. And they’d burned them.
The rangers found Anborn burned and beaten, tossed by Ada’s body to die.
But Ivrian didn’t know any of that then.
She knew fearsome, dancing flames and then night-dark bruises on Anborn’s weak hands holding hers, and tears of fear to ever let go again.

A/N: I'm starting to think I shouldn't write on Sept 11.  Depressing things result.
This drabble is a partner to "Crowning," but I did not put them together because they are not really a pair.  This one simply gives context to the other one.
This is why my Anborn hates Eastrons way more than Southrons.
To explain, my Anborn is the eldest of six children.  He was fifteen at the time of his father's death.  Ivrian, the fourth child, was five years old.  Melwen is one of her older sisters.
