“You’ll like it,” Galmód said; “plenty of learned, haughty folk there.”
Gríma rued his father’s insistence. A delegation to Gondor’s midsummer festival hardly needed skulking adolescents.
They’d joined a great man on the road, entirely pallid excepting dark eyes, also bound for Minas Tirith. Gríma regarded him with wary interest.
When they stopped to rest, brightness and warmth compelled the young men to spurn their clothes for the Entwash. Unwilling to emulate them, Gríma hunkered scrawnily in the grass with a book, perspiring.
An intimidating but pleasant voice remarked, “You spend your time more wisely than many, master Gríma.”
