“Ouch!” Faramir raised a bleeding finger to his lips and surveyed the brambles ruefully.
“Why don’t you ask the gardeners to do that, sir?” asked Beregond, who was passing.
Faramir laughed. “An old warrior can hardly complain over a pricked finger! The King gave me this land and I would liefer tame her myself. Did you never gather blackberries as a child, Beregond, and proudly show off your wounds, little knowing what was to come? How happy I am that now I fight thorns rather than men and can learn how to wield a sickle as deftly as a sword!”
