It had always been famine or feast between them, either lengthy visits to Gondor, or horse-buying expeditions to the Eastfold, even Edoras, that might take weeks… then nothing for months, even years, save letters carried by other travellers. They were busy, in positions that demanded their attention, their duty… and being among men, yes and women too, there was comfort to be had - for who’d not welcome the golden Prince of Horses or the Blade of Gondor to their table… or their bed?
No longer young, both were used to enduring hardships... but the hunger in their hearts never ceased.
