A Sunlit Absence
He used to fret about having only daughters. Daughters are costly.
We'll have nothing left once they are married off. They'll be the death of me.
And dead he certainly was...if not for that reason
He left for the battle frightened and unwilling. She hoped his ineptitude had secured him a quick end...once it started.
They helped bequeath us a future...
He who complained he didn't have enough to bequeath...
Dawn used to arrive wrapped in a grey-tinted murk. Now small patches of sunlight are carved into its sharp shadows. She angles her face towards the sun...and shivers a little.
