The summer's warmth sweltered, and the city groaned in sweaty protest.
Shading her forehead, the queen stared across the brown fields. A fleeting figure wavered on the horizon, and she squinted. Slowly the mass took shape, but still the queen frowned, sure that what she saw was a vision, brought about by the heat.
Yet flying above the growing shadow, she caught sight of a banner, the same cloth she had embroidered for her husband years ago...
It was the king! Returned at last.
Smiling, the queen turned to her son, who stood with her. But Eldarion was already running.
