Elanor smiled at the uncomfortable young man who stood on the front stoop. From the look of it, Fastred’s belt was more than a little too tight, and his damp hair was still glossy from a bath. His clothes were in excellent condition-she wondered if he’d had them made special.
“Elanor, lass,” he mumbled. “I was wonderin’ if I could talk with your dad?”
With confidence she did not feel, Elanor tossed her golden head. “Come in,” she invited. “Dad’s just having second breakfast.”
Fastred’s face grew pale. “Do you think he’d mind if I asked for your hand?”
