The summer wind was hot as it swept through the open window, ruffling her cornsilk hair as she ran a comb through it. Her eyes were stern with concentration, and a frown pursed her generous mouth.
On the wall before her, the mirror reflected her own face, and she shook her head, looking with dismay upon her too-ruddy cheeks and nose. With disdaining criticism, she noted mannish shoulders and a freckled bosom.
That she was not beautiful in even the broadest sense of the word, Elanor Gamgee knew full well.
Though perhaps her hair made up for her other deficiencies.
