The Endless Stair
We climbed the endless stair together, him and I, I clutching his heel, shedding a bit of myself at every turn of the spiral.
He was a slimy thing, now, the dying glow of his fire flickering under the shiny film on his skin.
At Durin's Tower was a last surge before we both went out. He flared and fought...and then fell in a torrent of frozen rain and burning earth.
I dissolved into filaments, light as air and night-fog...
I became a receptacle of whispers and waves, both open and cocooned. Waiting for Time to find me, once more.
