Disclaimer: Setting, characters, and genius belong to the Tolkien Estate. I make no money from this.

I am free, even as I kneel upon the rough stone. Though long-awaited ruin quick approaches, I breathe easy, knowing Shadow has passed-for today.

On the raised dais before me, my lord is hale and strong again. As he was in my youth, so he is now. The rumours ring in my ears; dark sorcery, they claim. Yet I care not-my lord is alive again.

I clench my sword-battle friend-in hand, fingers tight upon the hilt. Twin dragons rest against my fist, their jaws sinister and ever-ready, scorching my palm.

I am free, and I will fight.

Note: Éomer's sword, Gúthwinë, was never described in great detail; however, for the purpose of this drabble, it has dragons on the hand-guard. Also, Gúthwinë is Anglo-Saxon for "battle friend."
