I watch through slitted eyes as a fly beats its wings, caught in a spider’s net.
My cell is dark and dust-ridden, and though I languish upon the floor, my young bones are weary. Such idling, albeit in prison, chafes. My place is without, where the king’s golden throne is veiled in shadow, where the worm’s cunning begins to yield fruit.
Here, locked and chained, it seems there is naught I can do. I would gladly die rather than dwell a moment more in this pit. Yet I have no choice.
Looking back to the fly, I feel its hurt.
