Momentarily, her chest tightened, her senses spun... too much of the sleeping smoke the healers used... or too little sleep...
She coughed, but the dry throat remained... glancing up - he was still looking. Her face warmed - he knew she’d been staring, and now he knew, she knew! He smiled - that lazy, earnest smile... how many years, since...?
Her stomach suddenly felt hollow... I should eat.
Trenchers of bread and cheese were left in the hallways for the healers to snatch in passing - as she reached, his arm brushed hers.
“You’re late!” she blurted out.
“Apologies.”
He bowed... still smiling.
