Lifting her face to be kissed the elleth gazed into the familiar grey eyes.
“Elladan, my love,” she whispered.
He kissed her deeply, slowly, and then looked at her expectantly.
‘This time,’ she thought, ‘surely this time he is going to ask me to become his betrothed.’
Excusing himself he walked, slowly, back to his brother’s room remembering their long ago pact.
Taking off the borrowed robe, he downed the proffered glass of wine, and then slowly shook his head.
“I’m sorry, ‘Dan,” he said, “but that is another elleth who will not be wedding into the House of Elrond.”
