The news ran through the Citadel like ripples over water - each new voice adding to the upheaval. Feet ran in corridors used to sedate progress, linen remained unfolded, beds unmade. Many wept, others stood silent, disbelieving, or whispered together until the entire house held the susurration of cold winds.
Some insisted there was blood, notched swords and mauled flesh; those more privy acknowledged that someone, somewhere had acted with propriety. For all... nothing would be the same - but two especially reeled from the blow.
One nursed his sorrow in heartbroken silence; the other wept openly... tenderly clutching the cloven horn.
