A question for the readership

Sep 01, 2022 19:20

I tried in the past to migrate tolkien-weekly to Dreamwidth so that those interested didn't lose their stories and could if they wished continue to write, but then considering no one has posted on t-w since April - or queried why no new prompts had been posted... I don't know if anyone is still interested ( Read more... )

I am on Dreamwidth and I haven't lost interest in writing drabbles.
I'm also still keeping an eye on LJ and on the posts to this community and tolkien100.
So, if you set up a community on DW, I will definitely subscribe and follow posts there.

I am a bit stretched, though, with commitments to fic prompts from other sources and limits on my writing and reading time.
Among other things, I am now co-running a DW community myself (tolkienshortfanworks), which includes optional monthly prompts and drabbles as optional category among others.
That's the reason why I haven't been able to keep up with writing for prompts here. And given that, it would have seemed
very awkward to query why no new prompts were being posted!
The upshot is that I can't promise regular prompt fills on DW either, although I would still hope to write occasional ones.

I'm not a poster but I am a lurker. I check this site every week. I'm not on dreamwidth though. What kind of site is that?

Pretty much similiar to LJ. Different ethos by the owners, but I believe the content and style are very alike.
I have had an account there for a few months, but I haven't really explored the place. It was a just a thought as people seem to think Livejournal is on rocky ground one way or another.

I would like to save the archive that's built up here, but I suspect it will mean copying and pasting one drabble at a time, and I don't think I would be able to save the comments.

I don't think you would need to copy-paste one drabble at a time.

The automatic cross-post from DW no longer works, but the import still works or did until recently. Communities can be imported as well, although I don't know how. Tolkien100 was imported.

You may find interest picking up after the new series starts to air.

I confess I haven't been following the comm for quite some time and only found this by chance; the main reason is that I lost my drabble muse, or rather my ability to write drabbles, a few years back, and getting notifications about new contributions only increased that feeling of frustration that I no longer managed myself. But I'd definitely follow a mirror/sister community on DW which is my main fannish home, and would also try to write drabbles again if probably not regularly. But maybe the community would gain new interest and participants not only by the new series, but also since fandom seems to be more active on DW anyway (as much as fandom is still active on one of the journals, that is ;o ( ... )

Sorry, I haven't pursed linking or moving to Dreamwidth.

If I do so I will make sure to send you a link, but currently I am writing original fiction and I haven't written drabbles or fan-fic since I first posted this suggestion. In fact I very seldom post on LJ at all now.

It all got a bit dispiriting when no more than a couple of other people were posting to this comm.

Yes, it is true fandom has not been the same as in the early 2000s. :( I am still writing and love to drabble so hope that this comm will start back up sometime.
