Olwë thought of boasting to Finwë, “See, I have met the true Lord of Waters; he hath given me this.”
He fingered his black pearl ring, smirking. But Finwë was with Inwë, younger son of Imin of the Minyai - an odd pair, one dark, one fair, whispering together.
“What is that?” Olwë inquired, examining the muddle of driftwood the chieftains’ sons had bound up, sticking out at angles.
“It turneth in the winds,” Finwë exclaimed. “It shall benefit our peoples all, for it showeth which way the winds doth blow. Thy raft-elves shall be taken by surprise no more.”
