A nice moment!
It was quite a big step for Elanor to take, so far away from the Shire, even if she knew Aragorn already.

Thank you hhimring! Yes, according to the King's Letter in "Sauron Defeated" she was invited to meet Aragorn and Arwen at least once before, in 1436 SR, or 15 of the Fourth Age, along with her seven younger siblings who had been born at the time. He and Arwen sent word that they would be camped at the Brandywine Bridge, and were eager to see Sam, Rosie, and their eight children. It was at this time that Elanor was made a maid of honour to the Queen.

Six years later, in S.R. 1442 or the 21st year of the Fourth Age, Sam, Rose, and Elanor actually journeyed to Gondor together and stayed for a year. Elanor served Queen Arwen, and her youngest brother Tolman was born during that year, so it's likely he was born in Gondor. So S.R. 1442 is where this story starts :)
