Inside
Aragorn’s head spun… light, shadow, light, shadow… like being a youngster in the little round craft his brothers had made to take him fishing on Imladris’ pools. It looked easy when Elladan demonstrated how to paddle, but he simply spun in circles on the shaded water… leaving his brothers collapsed with laughter. And he couldn’t stop…

His mouth felt too dry to swallow, his shoulders hurt with effort, but he couldn’t stop spinning on the dark waters… Then… the light became stronger, he smelt winter’s golden flowers and a hand stilled him.

“Come back with me, Estel… I am here.”

Outside
On the make-shift cot, Aragorn twisted, mumbling with delirium; still far from their best healers, the Rangers worried, but could do little tonight. They camped, hoping he’d survive another day. After midnight the sentries heard hoof-beats, glimpsed the glowing elf-lord before he cloaked his fey.

“Where?”

“Oh, Lord, the arrow was tainted! We tried, but haven’t the craft…”

“Peace, friend. We must not let hope die. Take me to him”

Glorfindel touched Aragorn’s forehead, before taking his hand.

“Lord Elrond sent me to find you… come back with me Estel…”

Slowly the man stilled, gradually his breathing eased…

“Fetch him water…”
