Ball Challenge - snowball, ball of the foot: The Game, by Himring

Dec 28, 2014 13:07

Title: The Game
Author: Himring
Characters/Pairing: Lalaith and her older brother Turin Turambar
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Book/Source: Silmarillion, Children of Hurin
Disclaimer: Tolkien tells us that Turin liked to watch over his little sister at play, but did not often play with her himself. Himring merely added a little snow to this scenario.

Lalaith has an idea. She makes a snowball-just a loose fistful of snow-and, rising up on the ball of her feet to take aim, hurls it straight into the bushes. Giggling, she runs forward to find Turin showered in snow.
‘Snowballs, Turin! Come play snowballs!’
But her brother is staring at her with a peculiar expression.
‘Turin! Turin hurt?’
He shakes his head.
‘Turin sad?’
She puts her hand in his. He grasps it, a little tightly, but Lalaith doesn’t protest. Why didn’t he want to play? But he’s looking happier, holding her hand, so it’s all right.
