His hair smelt of nutmeg, his sea-bronzed skin would taste sweet, like sugar, the contours of his body, his lips when they kissed, would be heady wine to the fea…
But…
…he was not for the taking. His heart belonged to another, and his fea yielded to Master Elrond’s daughter. Their wrath could not be borne. Another Edain maybe… but not another Firstborn, not for more than mere traveller’s comfort…
Regretfully, the elf rolled away from him… Estel has learned all I can teach.
Guiding done - tomorrow she would leave him with her fellows and return home to Eryn Galen.
He had known it was their last night together, sharing a makeshift bed in the cramped, nutmeg-scented cabin; its storage bins stacked with sacks of precious spices, making all redolent with their aromas.
Their days at sea, brief sojourns to land when the ship anchored to trade and take on fresh water, the pleasures of sharing illicit sugar-canes, cajoled from the cook - all would colour his memories of this journey north to Cirdan.
Now, she was gone.
Estel sighed, raised his wine in salute - knowing Eldar had their own rhymes and reasons for coming and going, not his to command.
