Genre: Romance/General

Characters/Pairings: Hatter/Alice, mentioned Hatter/Mad March friendship (Because in my mind you can't have a Hatter without a Mad Hare, no matter what version of Wonderland.)

Warnings: Nothing really, except for spoilers, but that's kinda obvious, huh?

Summary: The fact still remains, though, that things he did not understand always gave him an odd sense of comfort.

A/N: Alice and Hatter were so OTP in the remake that I had to write this.  Can't really remember my thought process on this, but I loved this couple then and I love it now, so everything's the same.

Hatter had always taken comfort in things that didn't make sense. It was something that used to puzzle his mother before she passed on and it was something that he never denied himself. Some nights, before March had been taken, they would create riddles, passing them back in forth in their own odd little banter. These riddles were never solved, either from lack of trying or the sheer impossibility of them he wasn't sure. The fact still remains, though, that things he did not understand always gave him an odd sense of comfort. This is why, when he first sees her, he doesn't listen to his screaming instincts that seem to shout "Run you idiot, run fer you get yerself killed!" and instead decides to help her.

For she is a puzzle, an enigma in her own right. She's the oyster who's not from legend, but if willing to start her own to save her boyfriend. She's the girl who trusts a white night who's as crazy as a box of claustrophobic frogs to lead her through a forbidden forest. She's the woman who looked the Queen of Hearts in the eyes and did not back down, even when her death was almost certain. Yes, she is the best sort of riddle and Hatter knows that, if ever given the option, he will try his hardest to solve her.

After all, why is a raven like a writing desk?
