A/N: Here's the accompanying art to Briar's epic piece The Ivy Crown for the 2011 Paper Legends. Thanks go to the_muppet for organizing so huge a project with such dedication and keeping everything together; to yue_ix, whose amazing beta was more than I ever dreamed of, and without whom I don't think I could've finished; and to briar_pipe, who encouraged me, and indulged me ( Read more... )

How do I love you? Let me count the ways!

First of all, while I had some inkling of how awesome these would be from the sketches, the colored versions bring all your ideas so vividly to life that it's like looking at completely new works. Morgana's wound stands out even more starkly, and the crown border just pops and frames the whole thing. For the knights, I love how you captured them with their faces mostly turned away, mysterious and pushing forward. The leaves are just budding out green with early spring (you got the timing!), and the fire as a frame was truly inspired. I don't even know how you figured out what perfectly epitomized that moment and captured it on paper, but you did.

I can't believe what you did with Beltane, the intricacy of the work here. There's so much detail! The hands clasped in the foreground, the flirting in the center, and the white blossoms as the frame - perfect. I love the detail on her dress.

And Gwen, good lord, Gwen. You make me love her all over again. Her expression is so pragmatic, which saves a dramatic moment from becoming stylized. The crenelations framing that one match the sword in color and theme so well. It's all so carefully planned out, like you knew from the start exactly how all the pieces would fit together.

I'm so happy that you were willing to draw (and paint) for my story! I'm over the moon right now. <33333
