*eyetwitch* Now I remember why I hate the Pit of Voles...

I posted "The Scorched Earth Policy" to ff.net, and got this review:

"lol gen sure has some anger issues. but i think ur kinda making him look like an immature little kid. other than that, the story rocks. PLZ UPDATE!"

...*eyetwitch* Did this guy miss when I said they were all about eighteen? Plus, Genesis was a whiny little prat (I'm being nice ( Read more... )

I keep a special beatin' stick around for this kind of stuff. I have a soft spot for really aggressive 133t, but most of what passes for spelling (and, um, thinking) round here gives me a really special feeling.

That's when I reach for the stick.

I need to read this fic of yours tomorrow, pending a brain file restore.

I just need a "Smite" button on my keyboard. It would make everything so much easier if I could just smite people.

You have all of them down pat, no worries. The commentor really needs to actually *play the damn game* so they can see that.

Usually, I save people like this for cannon-fodder in future fics. ^_^

Yeah, I think that's it--they saw pictures and read fanfic and haven't played the damn game. I have (but haven't finished yet, damn my lack of free time) and have seen how much of a whiny, pouty bitch twenty-five-year-old Gacktesis was, so yeah, him at eighteen? Oh ye gods. Hell, all of 'em were little brats--you think twenty-five year old Seph would have stolen Genesis' clothes? No. OK, he would have summoned Leviathan to douse them with cold water, yes, but wouldn't have stolen Gen's clothes. NONE of 'em are mature, even though Angeal's the closest.

I don't think I could bear to put someone this stupid (and cowardly; they left that comment anonymously) in a fic. Not unless Reno was beating the crap out of them for being stupider than dirt.

*sympathizes*

Well, since he's so thoughtfully left his brilliant comment anonymously, you can delete it. Although I have to say, a "smite" button would be more satisfying...

Abso-fucking-lutely agree with your sentiments. The quality of writing has gone down in the past few decades, and I seriously fear for the future of the English language (and it's not even my native language!). I, too, hate the lower case "i" and those awful "ur's." But my biggest pet peeve is that people blow off spelling as something totally trivial and are generally too lazy to look things up! When in doubt, use the dictionary, damn it! There's nothing worse than seeing the homonym of the correct word used in its stead, or a more-or-less made up pseudo-phonetic spelling of a word (man, I should keep examples for times like this when I'm ranting...).

I'm all for that "smite" button, but I'd go one step beyond and use it to remove all of those sorry-excuse-for-writing fanfics that are out there. I can't read fics that are full of spelling and grammar errors - too damned distracting... and I deal with too much of that on a daily basis at work.

My little brother e-mails me in netspeak, and when I yell at him about it, saying he has a shift key and it wants to be friends, he gets irritated and says he's not in English class when he writes e-mails. And that makes me want to cry, because good grammar and proper punctuation are NOT things you leave behind when your English class ends.

And the Pit of Voles seems to be the worst of the worst, it really does, for the piss-poorly written fanfic.

And I still need a "smite" button.

Seriously. Why is it that a world that is so intent on wearing the right thing, knowing the right people, etc. can't take writing correctly seriously? I know people who can list off gobs of pointless facts and statistics and movie quotes, but they claim with absolutely no shame that they can't spell. There are only 26 fucking letters, people! How hard can it be, especially when compared with, say, the thousands of different characters you need to learn for Japanese or Chinese? No excuse, I tell you!

Ah, how I long for the days when people knew how to really, really write...
