I can has more Milk?

I signed up for Netflix in the wake of the recent Academy Awards and realizing I suck at following American pop culture and media, like its actually worth following.

Anyway, I started with movies that I totally meant to see last year. Which happened to leave me with Milk which was just depressing that I had never seen.

Needless to say I was astounded with Sean Penn. I've just gotten so used to watching straight actors try to pull off gay characters and it always ending in a stereotypcial 2D blob that always leaves me wanting to spend the rest of my days convincing people that that is NOT what gay people are like. Maybe that's just the difference between films like Milk and Blades of Glory :(

Personally, I would like to think we live in a world where those sort of stereotypical bigoted movies wouldn't sell...I mean you don't see them making movies like that about African Americans do you?

Oh wait...I forgot about House of Payne....nevermind.

Anyway, got sidetracked...I'm happy to say I live in this day and not the 60s or 70s. Yeah hippies are cool, but I didn't experience half the hardship and fear of coming out that my predecessors did and for that I will always be greatful to people like Harvey MIlk and others like him in the Gay Rights movement. Their lives are honored not by ambivalence and inaction, but a desire to share their deeds and the importance of rights for ALL American citizens in this country.
