and we just laughed and laughed. . .

It's a very odd business the way someone can reappear in your life. The other day I was thinking of him as I drove home. The car was squealing as I turned the bend and I'm wondering if one of these days the cop that pulls me over is going to be him. Wouldn't that be hilarious? I'd say, "Hey there Sheffield, fancy meeting you again. . ."

And then today I am going to lunch and when I see this very familiar, built-like-a-bulldog young man. In army attire. It was Sheffield. I didn't know if he would remember me at all, and how embarrassing would it have been if he didn't and I said 'hi'? We had been on opposite sides of the social spectrum, afterall. So I didn't and felt like a fucking idiot.

Afterlunch ends, I'm walking down the hallway when a voice breaks the silence: "MILLER! HOW DARE YOU WALK AWAY FROM ME?!"

I spin around and he's laughing and then we both laugh and it was grand. Grand grand grand.
