Jirou!
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
I love Jirou! He's fun to write and play, and has more depth of character to explore than most people think, without being ridiculously complex. Overall, he's a nice, easygoing guy, and I think I'd get along with him well. ♥
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
Not particularly, no. :/ He hasn't even played Echizen, so he's useless, obv.
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
In a lot of ways, I can relate - we're both basically happy people, easygoing and friendly, naturally charming. (He might be a little more modest, but not a whole lot.) He definitely does grip me emotionally, though; he feels very strongly about things, is easily moved, and I find it impossible to write or play with him without being taken along for the ride. (Thank goodness he's generally happy.)
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
V. v. much. ♥ I can't get out of it.
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
Oh, tons. Jirou loves people so easily, and being the way he is, he's bound to be capable of opening up (or at least provoking) some of the most hard-to-crack characters. I love Atobe/Jirou, Yuushi/Jirou, Jirou/Marui and Jirou/Gakuto, and I love the idea of (but have never really played with) Tezuka/Jirou, Sanada/Jirou, Renji/Jirou (which is totally AM's fault), Jirou/Rin (Jen's fault, that time)... there's tons more, I'm sure; we won't even get into threesomes. I also love exploring friendships with all of the above, along with (idek) Tanishi. ♥ I have fic for this.
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
Absolutely not. ♥ He's perfect the way he is.
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
I think we'd be friends. ♥ We'd nap on each other often and share pocky.

Depends on the person - if I thought they were going to be a rabid fanbrat, I'd try to turn them away from Jirou entirely. Jirou gets way too much badfic. If they seemed capable of moderate intelligence, though, I'd probably bubble on about him. ♥
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Pretty damn, but moreso with the annoying half of the fanbase. ;;

I wish I had fic recs, but unfortunately, the only AtoJi I've ever been able to find is either A) ridiculous, because everyone thinks Jirou is five years old or possibly a dog, or B) ridiculously angsty, because everyone thinks Jirou has a MySpace and cuts himself. :/
As for DJ, I mostly collect SanaYuki. XD; No help there, sorry~
