Unbeta'ed because I'm a lazy ass.
It didn’t take a long time for the three people to get ready for Jonghyun’s arrival. Jinki helped Jonghyun with terminating the apartment legally (he had secretly thanked the Gods for listening in law school, though this matter hadn’t anything to do with his current employment) and move his few belongings into their own house, which mainly only was Jonghyun’s clothes since he didn’t had time to grab anything else when his parents threw him out and furniture was included in the apartment.
Jinki was put in charge to pick up Jonghyun the day he was supposed to move in, because Kibum had insisted on making everything perfect for their new housemate, and hopefully pet’s, arrival. Jonghyun, had surprisingly, not seen the couples house before which Jinki only realized when he was on his way to pick up the younger, but he excused it with the fact that the whole getting-Jonghyun-out-of-his-apartment-and-move-in had happened so fast that it must have skipped their mind.
They had agreed that Jinki would get Jonghyun from right after school, the day he was supposed to move in. Jonghyun had waited outside the school building for few minutes when he noticed Jinki stepping out of his car and look confused around, trying to find the silver haired male in the large mass of students leaving the school.
Jonghyun spotted the other first and walked up slowly to Jinki; bowing deeply as greeting.
“Hi there,” Jinki smiled brightly at the other, ruffling up the young boy’s hair. “Let me take that.” Jinki took Jonghyun’s bag pack just after he spoke, placing on the backseat of the car before crawling in on the driver’s seat just as Jonghyun sat on the front seat beside him. Jinki quickly told the silver haired boy to buckle up before he shifted the car into gear and drove away from the school’s parking lot.
Not much was said through the drive; Jinki tried to keep the small-talk going, but Jonghyun’s answers were mostly single syllable words and eventually Jinki just stopped trying to talk with the boy and then the only sound that was, were the sound of the car’s engine and the tires against the asphalt.
Jonghyun sat with his head resting against the window, looking at the scenery they drove past, but at the same point not looking at anything at all; just in deep thoughts. He couldn’t believe he had agreed to move in at some strangers’ place so fast; they could be serial killers, rapist or child molesters for all he knew! He glanced at Jinki when those thoughts crossed his mind and he couldn’t help but shake his head lightly to himself, there was no way this gentle looking person that sat beside him would ever hurt another, be it human or animal, on purpose.
Jinki gave the passenger a small smile and raised an eyebrow questioningly when he saw he was being looked at, causing Jonghyun to quickly look away and out the window again, blushing light pink from the embarrassment of getting caught staring. Chuckling quietly in amusement, Jinki looked forward and concentrated on the road once again.
What brought Jonghyun out of his thoughts was when he felt the car slow down and park in a long driveway, his eyes widened when he finally focused on the house they just had parked by.
“You-” Jonghyun shook his head and swallowed, wetting his dry throat. “You live here?” Jinki couldn’t help but laugh softly, his eyes wrinkling at the corners. “Yeah, and you’re gonna live here as well.” He said with a light voice, turning the key in the ignition to turn of the car’s motor.
Jonghyun slowly got out of the car, his eyes fixed on the building in front of him. It was definitely bigger than the average house. It was a two floored house, with a white front, but Jonghyun was unable to make out the material just like that. The front garden contained nothing but short grass, that was so green it reminded Jonghyun of the fairway on a golf-course. A small path made out of dark grey stones, with light grey, almost white, gravel on both side, was leading up to a small staircase that lead to the house’s dark front door.
“C’mon,” Jinki’s voice made Jonghyun tear his gaze from the, in his mind, enormous house and follow the elder male up the small path and inside the house. They entered a small entre, the floor was out of dark grey tiles and the walls were a warm beige colour. Jonghyun toed off his shoes and put them neatly to the side before he slipped off his jacket as well and hung it up as well before following Jinki into the next room; which showed out to be the living room.
The room had Jonghyun gaping, it was so big! It had high ceilings; at least 4 meters, maybe even 5 and it made the already spacey room look even bigger. The wall that was towards the back garden wasn’t even a wall, it was windows and they were as high as the ceiling. The walls were covered in wallpaper with a warm beige color and the floor was made of dark wood. Jonghyun felt welcome in that room, he felt home and… safe. For the first time in a long while.
A soft smile slowly spread across his lips and he hadn’t noticed that Kibum, now with black hair and not blonde like last time they’d met, that just had come down from the second floor and was now observing him together with Jinki. He walked a few steps into the room, looking curiously around. A cornered couch was standing to his left and a small, white coffee table at it as well. A fireplace was placed against the wall so you could sit in the long end of the couch and look at the fire. Jonghyun could just imagine Christmas mornings here, sitting with your loved ones by the warm fire and just enjoy the static and popping sound it made.
The wall behind the shorter end of the couch had a few bookshelves, both of them filled, with books and some knickknacks. Some books looked like new ones and other ones were older, seen on the leather binding. But Jonghyun didn’t have time to see what kind of books were on the shelves, because something in the far back of the living room had caught his attention.
At the large windows was standing a large, white grand piano. And not just a simple one, its sides was heavily decorated; patterns cut out and painted with gold. Jonghyun’s eyes were wide and literally sparkling as he took a few steps closer to it.
“You play?” The voice had Jonghyun jumping in surprise, he had completely forgotten the fact he wasn’t the only person in the room. He was met with the sight of Kibum, giving him a bright smile and a curious look.
“Um, well, no, my parents thought it was a waste of money to pay for lessons.” Jonghyun gave the other an embarrassing smile, looking slightly flustered.
“Honestly, none of us play either.” Jinki had walked up beside Kibum and wrapped an arm around the latter’s waist; a bright smile covering his face. “But Kibum thought it was beautiful and would fit in.”
The comment earned Jinki an elbow in his ribs by a flustered looking Kibum. “Enough about my piano, you should see your room.” Kibum gave the silver haired boy a smile and turned around Jonghyun nodded, expecting the latter to follow him when he walked back to the hallway and up the stairs to the second floor.
Kibum waited for Jonghyun by the end of the staircase, mentioning to the latter that he should follow him. He led him to a bedroom. “This’s Jinki and I’s bedroom. The doors over there are to our bathroom and our closet.” Kibum pointed toward to door made out of light wood when he spoke, before leading Jonghyun with him across the room, through a third door, and into another bedroom. “This will be your room. Your own bathroom is there, and the door over there, is out towards the hallway.”
“Why is our rooms connected?” Jonghyun looked genuinely confused at the other male.
The question had Kibum frowning softly; the room that now was Jonghyun’s was originally what they called the Mistress Chamber, the room their old pet lived in. It had been one of their rules that he wasn’t allowed in bed with them, but they still wanted him close, in case, they needed him. Also, it was convenient that he had his own room, it allowed them to lock him up as a punishment in case he ever did something wrong.
“Because it was planned to be a nursery, but the family that lived here before us was unable to get children so they moved out once they found out; not wanting to be reminded off their inability to reproduce.” Both Kibum and Jonghyun looked over at the door between the two bedrooms, being greeted with a smiling Jinki, who just shrugged in response. Jonghyun nodded slowly, that made sense.
“We’ll let you get sometime alone until dinner’s ready.” Kibum said and gave Jonghyun’s shoulder a squeeze before walking out with Jinki, closing the door after him, leaving Jonghyun for himself.
The silver haired boy sat down on the bed once he was alone, a heavy sigh leaving his lungs before he let himself fall back on the bed, closed his eyes. He laid there for what felt like hours, but probably just was minutes, before he pushed himself up in a sitting position again, letting his eyes roam around the room.
It wasn’t as big as Jinki and Kibum’s, but bigger than what he ever had before. The walls were beige like most of the house, but Jonghyun didn’t mind. It had a calming effect. The room’s furniture was simple, a desk, small closet and the bed he was currently sitting on. The room was clean, but it something about the room made Jonghyun think it hadn’t been used in a good while.
Jonghyun didn’t have much more time to think about the matter, Jinki had just stuck his head into the room, telling him that there was dinner was ready; to which Jonghyun nodded and got off the bed to follow the elder downstairs again.
A heavy scent filled his nostrils even before he entered the kitchen. The scent made him aware of just how hungry he was and how long it’s been since he ate something homemade.
During the dinner, which Kibum had cooked, Jonghyun found out that the two males both where older than him. Kibum was 21 years and Jinki 23 years old, making them respectively 3 and 5 years older than he himself was. The blonde told that he was working as a criminal defense lawyer, but it really wasn’t anything too big. His clients where often teenagers who had got into bad company or was pressured into the criminal life.
Kibum on the other hand was a self-made designer. He had started out as a stylist on a nearby TV company, but often made people wear his own designs and that was how he got spotted. Jonghyun was explained that he would most likely see Kibum more often than he would see Jinki, since Kibum could work from home where as Jinki wasn’t that privileged and had to work away from home.
“So, Jonghyun, do you like the place?” Jinki asked softly, as they both stood side by side, doing the dishes.
“Yeah... But you still haven’t told me how much I have to pay for living here.” Jonghyun pointed out, but Jinki only waved him off.
“We agreed on having you stay here for three months, to see if we could live together without killing each other and that agreement is still on. Once we figure out whether the three of us are compatible or not, then we’ll start discussing a payment and not before.” Jinki’s voice was soft, but it had a stern undertone that clearly stated this topic wouldn’t be discussed until the three months had passed.
Jinki had afterwards attempted to get more knowledge about the younger boy, but Jonghyun had promptly shut up and an awkward silence fell over the two of them.
The blonde eyed Jonghyun a bit from time to time, noticing how the younger’s features was consorted into a painful expression, a frown covering his features and lip digging deeply into his plumb lower lip. Jinki let out a sigh at the sight, shaking his head for a moment at his own stupidity. Of course Jonghyun wasn’t ready to tell him what had happened and he was a jerk for even asking in the first place. But, a smaller part of him expected, hoped, that Jonghyun would tell him what was wrong.
He found it scary how he already viewed Jonghyun as a pet, a person he needed to take care of and protect at all cost. And of course, that was why he expected Jonghyun to tell him what was wrong. Another, sadder, sigh fell from his lips; he had a feeling that Jonghyun would never become a pet. Jinki thought it was Jonghyun urge to be independent; first time was in the café where Jonghyun refused help from the person he was talking to on the phone and the difficulties with convincing him to actually move in and live here.
They would have a lot of trouble with teaching him to let go of that urge, if they even could take it from him. But Kibum had told that Jonghyun was the right one for them, so Jinki had trusted him blindly, like he always had…
The sound of chairs being pushed back brought Jinki back to the present time and out of the memories he had been lingering at. He shook his head, collecting himself before getting up as well. He grabbed his plate and threw out the remaining food that was on it before putting it in the dishwasher and then excusing himself.
Jonghyun looked after the elder with wide eyes before looking questioningly at Kibum.
“Don’t mind him” The black haired male just shook his head in response to the look he was getting, offering Jonghyun a small smile. “Just go, I’ll take care of this.” He smiled softly at the young boy, waving him off.
“No. No, I want to help, that’s the least I can do.” He got up beside Kibum, helping him with cleaning the table and putting all the early dirty dishes in the dish washer. Kibum couldn’t help but smile at the young boy’s antics. He had made a good choice; this boy here was definitely going to be a good pet, he was certain.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Kibum told he had to work and disappeared into a room beside the kitchen, shortly explaining to Jonghyun that he worked in there. Jonghyun nodded in response, before walking into the living room and sat down on the couch beside Jinki.
He didn’t say anything, just curled up and watched the TV together with Jinki. Eventually Kibum came out of his office as well and sat down on the other side of Jonghyun, his attention to the screen. Jonghyun’s eyelids slowly began getting heavier and after a few minutes his head felt down on Kibum’s shoulder, almost asleep.
Kibum looked surprised and though he didn’t want to wake up the young boy, he shook him lightly until Jonghyun groggily opened his eyes. “Yeah?” He looked tiredly at Kibum, who smiled warmly at him.
“Go to sleep. It’s been a long day.” Jonghyun nodded softly in response, thanking the two others against before finally getting up from the couch and dragging himself upstairs and into his room. He undressed, leaving himself only in his underwear before crawling into bed and pulled the blanket over him.
A few minutes and he was already in deep sleep, dreaming vividly about what had happened that day and what was yet to come.
