shounen ai in the Iliad, Bones

Heh heh, looks like "L" raided Matt's closet XD

The things you come across while reading literature :D I must say, I was very very pleased to discover that the Iliad contained a BL pairing, so guess what I'm shipping now? PatroclusxAchilles. As they both died off during the Trojan War and was therefore not in the Odyssey (which I read during sophomore year of high school), I did not realize they existed and were so incredibly canon~ Canon, I say? Well, I learned from class that Achilles sat out for nine of the ten years during which the war took place, and he only came into battle because his beloved Patroclus was killed. Okay, so dragging a dead Hector around Troy was overkill, but, you know, the whole avenging your lover's death intention was very sweet.

I am a bit sad that I'm in the great minority of the class who believes that Patroclus is the seme and Achilles is the uke (there are Greek words for seme and uke, but I forgot them). Okay, so Achilles is the greatest warrior of all time and there's a part where Patroclus is preparing food and wine like a housewife, but as far as I can see, this is clearly a case with a dominant uke (gotta love them) and a slightly whipped seme. (Obviously my classmates haven't read enough yaoi XD). I'll just guess that they took 'dominant uke' to be 'seme'.

First of all, Achilles is relatively pretty for a guy, and that automatically makes him the uke in my book. How do I get that he's pretty-ish? Because to avoid going to the Trojan War, his mom dressed him up as a princess. So the plan failed overall, but let it be known that he pulled off the crossdressing part just fine. And then there's his personality. He seems a bit high-maintenance with the staying in his tent for most of the war while his fellow Greeks are being taken down due to an argument. Yeah, yeah, he has that Briseis girl or whatever, but she seems more like a shiny toy rather than an actual lover. Contributing to his personality is that fact that he goes crying to his mom. And just how many semes out there cry? Not many. Exactly.

Second of all, Patroclus makes a much better seme. He's like a servant (and for my favorite masterxservant pairings, the servant is always the seme. Kuroshitsuji, Maiden Rose, la di la), and boy can he fight. Maybe not as good as Achilles, but still pretty badass. Afterall, he was the one fighting during the nine years that Achilles spent doing (what the heck was he doing?) stuff in his tent. Can't you just imagine him as the tan, dark-haired warrior with bulging muscles? That's how I see him anyways, and he makes a perfect contrast to my image of Achilles being a blond pretty boy with a slightly smaller muscular build. Plus, he's older than Achilles and was meant to be a companion to Achilles. Now that's quite characteristic of a seme, as I've ascertained from all the yaoi I've read. I'm sure he made a great companion :D So yeah, I firmly believe that it's PatroclusxAchilles and not the other way around.

Now onto Bones.

Okay, I'm royally pissed >:( WHY THE HECK DID THEY KICK ZACK OFF THE SHOW? So it's not so much kicking off as reduced to guest appearances, but it might as well be the same thing. And it better not be because Eric Milligan is openly gay >:( I feel like that was an incredibly terrible move on the scriptwriters'/producers'/whoever made the decision's part. Yes, the Gormoggon thing needed to be resolved, and it would be a total shocker if one of the main characters were the assistant. But Zack? Really? Sorry, but Sweets would've been a better choice, not because I don't like him (I do, he's adorable as well), but because I wouldn't miss him as much since he's only been there fairly recently.

It's not to say that I dislike it when a main character gets offed. I definitely wasn't this upset when Doyle died in Angel or when Anya died in Buffy because their deaths actually had a good reason behind it and had a little possibility that someone in the main cast could die (self-sacrifice for a greater cause and a death in a battle to save the world are very good reasons). But here, the whole Zack being Gormoggon's assistant came out of nowhere. If this had been planned from the start of the season with minute hints along the way, I would've understood, but as the finale explanation seemed completely random (and not to mention Eric Milligan didn't choose to leave the show), I vehemently object.

Zack was my favorite character in Bones- his logic and tendency to take things literally made him absolutely adorable, and his relationships with the other squints were really sweet (For me, Booth and Brennan were his parents/objects of hero worship, and Hodgins was like his big brother, and Angela and Cam were like his older sisters. All so incredibly endearing. I cried a bit when they were looking at the box with his favorite things). I shall especially miss his interactions with Hodgins. Furthermore, after three seasons of watching his character develop from being a grad student to getting his doctorate and going to war briefly and so on, you just become sort of attached to him, you know?

Frankly, it seems like the show is going to be incredibly boring without my favorite character being a regular. While I find that the BoothxBrennan romance is better than Caskett (Nathan Fillion is so old compared to Stana Katic), I don't like the romance that much (it feels a bit forced), and that is certainly not enough to hold my full interest. But I'll continue watching to see when Zack makes guest appearances and because it's still a murder mystery series.
