Shinpachi: Alright! Time for another nice solid sword practice today! With Nagakura Shinpachi being the opponent, those lads better be prepared! Eh? Saitou is here?
Saitou: Is there a problem for me to be here?
Shinpachi: No. Not at all. I was just thinking that since Hijikata-san went out, surely you would've left with him.
Saitou: Vice Commander didn't tell me to accompany him. So there's no need for me to go.
Shinpachi: Hahaha. That's not what I meant. It's because I'm under the impression that Saitou always follows Hijikata-san closely. It's just me though.
Saitou: Not "always".
Shinopachi: Really? But from what I see, wherever Hijikata-san is, you're always there behind him. Why are you so concerned about Hijikata-san?
Saitou: That's not being concerned. I'm merely attending because there's a need.
Shinpachi: Hijikata-san said so himself, "Saitou is overly considerate of me. That's no good." Something like that.
Saitou: ... Is that so?
Shinopachi: Well, I can relate to how Hijikata-san feels. Being followed by someone around-the-clock is like being watched. Even when taking a break, he can't really relax. That's tiring.
Saitou: ... You have a point.
Shinpachi: Hijikata-san has attractive looks, doesn't he? Since he's so popular in Shimabara, there must be lots of things he wants to do. But with you always there...
Saitou: ... Vice Commander wouldn't do such things...
Shinpachi: Nah, I wouldn't be so sure about that! Probably he's being considerate in front of you.
Saitou: ... Have I worried Vice Commander?
Shinpachi: If that's the case, Hijikata-san is having such a hard time...
Hijikata: Hey! Quit gossiping at a place like this!
Shinpachi: Eh? Hijikata-san, you're back so soon.
Hijikata: I'm only back to pick up what I forgot. I'm leaving right away.
Saitou: Then, if you'll excuse me...
Hijikata: Saitou, didn't you hear? I'm leaving. Get yourself ready.
Saitou: Un... understood! I'll be right back!
*Saitou leaves*
Hijikata: Shinpachi! Don't give him weird ideas.
Shinpachi: Ah. Sorry, sorry. I spoke what's on my mind at whim.
Hijikata: Unlike you said, I'm not holding back, nor having a hard time.
Shinpachi: Really? That's good to hear. Because I'm worried that Hijikata-san might be stressing himself for our sake again.
Hijikata: Haha. I didn't expect to have you worry about me.
Shinpachi: Hah? I have lots of thoughts too.
Hijikata: I see. Thanks. Well, rather than on me, you should keep a close eye on the soldiers' training.
Shinpachi: Oh crap! I was on my way to the training grounds!
Hijikata: Geez. How come everyone here need me to watch his back?
Shinpachi!! *ROTFL*
It's rare to hear so much emotional change in Saitou's voice. Listen to him getting more and more depressed, and then just beams when Hijikata tells him to get prepared! Shinpachi is indeed a thoughtful person, but I bet he's also enjoying teasing Saitou. XD
BTW this short drama didn't come out of nowhere. In Hakuoki game, Shinpachi also said "you were like Hijikata-san's shadow" when he saw Saitou stayed in Aizu while Hijikata left for Sendai.
Hijikata-san, aren't you the one giving Saitou weird ideas? What kind of perfect image are you trying to give? XD And I don't see you going back to your room to pickup anything! Obviously "what I forgot" = Saitou.
