As always, my life has been a whirlwind of change in the past month and a half. Once again I have a new job and we finally made the big move out of my childhood home on January 29th. The move went well, but it happened really fast and it seemed like I didn't even have a chance to have a proper "goodbye". I don't know that it mattered much though, some things are made better by just letting go and moving on. We moved into our new town home that same day. Like I said, it was a rush from closing to closing, but we got all of our stuff into our new garage by dinner time as planned! We're still settling in of course... Nate had a trade show in Las Vegas last week and with my new job, plus catching a nasty bug over the weekend, unpacking has been going slowly. At least I almost have the kitchen unpacked. Next on our list of things to accomplish is furniture, which we semi-accomplished last weekend. We found a great deal on a sofa, love seat, and recliner set at Hom Furniture. They should arrive on Saturday and I'm hoping then the place will start to feel more like home. Currently I feel like I'm on vacation and just can't quite settle in yet. Then we'll just need some bar stools and a few more sets of drapes. The animals seem to be adjusting well. Bohdi LOVES the carpeting and follows us everywhere! OH! How could I forget?! We also need to purchase a water softener. Showers are not pleasant when you have hard water. Neither is the drinking the water, but thankfully Nate's Mom purchased us one of those Brita water filtering systems, so we can now drink it. It still doesn't taste like home though.
What else? Oh, my new job! So far it's been going really well. The drive to Edina hasn't been the greatest, especially when I had/have to wake up at 3:30 and 4:30 in the morning, but at least it's only temporary. Tuesday and today (Wednesday), I actually had the opportunity to train at the Lakeville Target. It was definitely a different experience compared to Edina. They do things FAR differently, some good things, some bad things. I'm hoping to carry the best of both stores over to our new store. I just found out today that this will be my last week of training. Starting next week, we will be in the new Apple Valley store training on how to use the ovens, cake decorating, health stuff, etc. Then at the end of the month we begin production (i.e. baking all our goods) and prepare to open the first week of March! I cannot believe how fast the first two months of the year have flown/are flying by!! It's ridiculous! I can only hope that I am prepared enough and that it will go well. On one hand I feel like I've learned a ton and am ready, but on the other hand I know that there is still so much experience that I lack. I am mostly just concerned, because to the best of my knowledge they have only hired our two bakers, only one cake decorator, only two daytime wrappers (myself being one) and then our team lead, and only one person to close. With having seen what the other two stores go through every day, I'm just not sure two fairly inexperienced wrappers and one team lead can hack a huge store opening. Oh well, I'm going to try my best not to worry too much over it and go with the flow. I can only do what I've learned and take in what haven't. The rest is in God's hands.
Well, I guess that's all the major updates I have for now. There's been a ton more going on, but I just haven't had the motivation to write during my spare time. Hopefully we can return to our regular programmed lifestyles VERY SOON! Hope everyone has been well and I will try to keep in better touch!! ^_^
