My Lover’s Keeper
Chapter Ten
As soon as Takaki pushed him out of the kitchen and into the hallway Daiki stood stock still until he heard the squeaky door swing shut. Suddenly he felt very unsure of himself as he snuck around the corner so that the others wouldn’t suspect anything. Falling against the wall weakly Daiki rubbed his eyes tiredly with an involuntary groan. “They want me to go ask Inoo why I’m here?” he mumbled to himself angrily, “Why can’t Takaki, the normal one, do it?”
In the direction of his room Daiki shuffled his feet as he continued to mumble. How could they expect him to talk to Inoo? Not only does he despise Inoo with a passion so great it could rain down in hell and douse every flame, Daiki was sure the feeling must be mutual after the argument they had the day before. And he was the most insufferable person Daiki’d ever had the misfortune of meeting, he would never tell Daiki of all people. Daiki was sure that if only to be difficult Inoo wouldn’t tell a soul.
Pissing people off was most likely his favorite pastime…
Though curiosity nudged at the back of his mind Daiki pushed it aside as he decided Hikaru’s rude awakening earlier that morning owed him at least another hour of sleep. Finally, something that sounded at least a bit pleasant. So with heightened spirits Daiki wondered back into his and Keito’s room and flopped unceremoniously down on the bed. Daiki didn’t waste time with anymore frustrating pondering as he threw a lazy arm over his eyes to block out the morning sunlight.

Of three things Daiki was positive: He was very uncomfortable, he couldn’t move, and he wasn’t where he knew he should have been. The familiar blur of sound invaded his ears in an unpleasant buzz of voices he couldn’t identify. The cool air grazing his arms caused the hair to stand on end in anticipation.
All these uncomfortable sensations were recognizable…
In a shock of realization Daiki’s eyes shot open and he sat up. He was sure he knew where he was as he rubbed at his eyes until the smoky gray fog before him was clear. He was back at school again. Almost as quick as he’d recognized this place a wave of dread filled him from the top of his head to the tip of his toes.
As Daiki continued to take in his surroundings his eyes darted back towards the front of the room as the smoke rapidly began to roll away uncovering unmoving students as it drifted away. The smoke uncovered the entire room; everything but the furthest corner from him where it remained just as thick as when it had occupied the whole room. Only one desk was hidden from Daiki’s view.
Glancing at the front of the room Daiki didn’t see the tall shadow of a man that was the teacher and sighed in relief as he leaned back in his desk. Gazing about the room now that he could see everything he noticed how slowly the stone-like students began to come to life. As if testing their joints many twisted and turned in their seats until one girl only a few seats from him stopped and stared.
He peered back curiously and cocked his head, “What?” At this every eye in the room turned on Daiki in one massive shift causing him to jump in surprise. As they all continued to stare Daiki fidgeted nervously in his seat, “What?”
Then without warning, a group of girls to his left started chattering at each other. Daiki didn’t have to try to listen to know it was about him; about how he was different, weird. It was always about him. It would always be about him. Unable to contain his frustration, Daiki slammed his hands on the desk, “I am not weird!”
The glare he’d sent towards the girls was cut off as he felt someone grab his collar. Daiki’s hardened look crumbled away as he stared straight into the face of a very angry yet amused looking boy surrounded by others with the same hauntingly amused expression. “If anything we’ll make you weird looking!”
Before Daiki had the chance to comprehend what that was supposed to mean the first blow made contact with his nose. With a painful cry Daiki stumbled back and fell over his desk toppling painfully to the floor. In a shuddering heap Daiki clamped his hands over his ears as a mechanical laughter filled the room. “Stop it! Stop! I’m not weird. I’m not weird, I didn’t do anything!” He ignored the fresh flow of blood escaping his throbbing nose as he crawled back when the group of threatening boys closed in on him. “I didn’t do anything! Leave me alone, please!”
Just as the first kick was headed for his side a calm voice rang out above the laughter and it died out instantly, “Didn’t you hear him? He said he didn’t do anything.” The students turned their collective gaze to the other side of the room. Daiki caught a small glimpse through shuffling legs as the smoke in the last corner of the room began to fade slowly, “I suppose if he had actually done something this wouldn’t be as much of a problem…”

“No! Stop! I didn’t do anything!”
“I know! Shh… Just calm down Daiki. You’re just dreaming…”
Daiki felt himself thrashing and a pair of strong arms on his shoulders. Suddenly he stopped moving and his eyes snapped open. “Yabu?”
“Yes. Yes it’s Yabu. You were dreaming, everything’s alright now.”
Daiki blinked up at the tall figure bent over him, a look of worry written clearly on the older mans face. “I was just dreaming…” he said to himself quietly as if to reassure himself, “… just dreaming.” Catching his breath he glanced over at Yabu, “I was just dreaming.”
The taller one nodded, “Only a dream.”
Despite his relief Daiki’s brows furrowed, “But I keep having that dream. Only it just changed a bit this time.”
Yabu listened with interest, “I bet your subconscious is trying to tell you something. My guess is that you have to get to the end of the dream to find out what that is though.”
Daiki looked pensive for a moment as he considered the circumstance until with out warning his face contorted into a mixture of repulsion and frustration at the thought of experiencing the dream again. Yabu became worried.
“Are you alright? You looked constipated,” leaning forward he put his hand on Daiki’s forehead and regarded the shorter boy worriedly, “Daiki, when was the last time you… you know…”
Taken by surprise Daiki jumped back and away from Yabu’s cool hand and regarded him with a wary eye, “What are you my mom or something?!”
At Daiki’s sudden outburst Yabu recoiled as well, “Um…” he cleared his throat and regained composure, “Well… of course not. I’m a man. How could I be your mother?”
Snorting Daiki crossed his arms over his chest and leaned into the wall regarding the older man with a small smirk, “You seem to have found a way with Ryutaro…” Bashfully Yabu looked away but did not deny Daiki’s claim. “What did you come here for anyway?”
Yabu’s gaze drifted slowly back to the boy on the bed, “Takaki said you’d be here.”
“Of course he’d rat me out…” though he wasn’t all that surprised Daiki was none too thrilled either.
Yabu regarded him seriously, “Daiki you’ve got to go talk to Inoo. This has got to be a misunderstanding. Everyone thinks the same. If you just talk with him-“
“You all are just upset I don’t worship Inoo like you do. You can’t imagine how someone could see him what he really is.” Daiki interjected with a frustrated tone.
With sad eyes Yabu regarded the stubborn boy, “You may regret not speaking with him.”
With a snort Daiki responded, “I doubt that. What makes you so sure he even wants to see me in the first place?”
“Well…” Yabu stalled before answering, “we really don’t’ know if he does or not. Actually since the argument he hasn’t wanted to see anyone. Not even the rest of us.”
“Then that settles it right?” Daiki grinned cheekily, “If he doesn’t want to see you then he sure as he-“
”You have to talk with him!” Yabu’s forcefulness took Daiki by surprise, “I think- no, we think- we think you’re the only one who can make him act normal again. Since it was, you know, you that sort of messed it up in the first place.”
Daiki refused to answer back at that point and just stared at the comforter nestled comfortably over his legs.
“Daiki…” Yabu prodded, “Come on Daiki…”
Realizing the futile effort Daiki threw his arms in the air with an indignant shout, “Fine! You people will never leave me alone will you?!”
“Not when Chinen is around… I was afraid of what might happen if I didn’t return with good news.” Yabu answered with a shudder.
“And this is good news how? I’ll probably just make it worse.”
“Just wait and see…”

Once again Daiki found himself face to handle with Inoo’s study room doors. Pulling loosely on the black bowtie Yabu had shoved him unwillingly into he looked down at the rest of his uniform and sighed. “How do I always get myself into these situations?” he mumbled to himself, “I must really be a bad karma magnet…”
Before he had a chance to explore these melancholic thought any further he heard a giggle from behind the door. No, wait, two… three giggles?
“Oh Inoo-sama that was a dirty trick,” said a sultry voice from the opposite side.
Daiki listened for a reply when Inoo spoke, “I know… I can be very naughty…”
Daiki didn’t wait to hear more as he slammed both doors open to see Inoo and the two call girls from before. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
Both girls let out a shriek of surprise and Inoo’s gaze flew to the doorway where Daiki looked on furiously; though he couldn’t quite see as well as before on account of countless playing cards floating about the room. Inoo answered Daiki with a calm demeanor, “Just playing some gold fish, a harmless card game. Care to join?”
Author’s Note: *peeks out from behind the door* Um… Hi guys… *still peeking* … um… don’t hurt me? *sigh* yeah… I know I took like forever and three day’s putting out this chapter. BUT IT’S NOT WRITERS BLOCK!!!! I’ve known what was going to happen in this very chapter for months!!! Actually this fic idea has been stewing around in my head since before “It’s a Love/Hate Sort of Thing…” It’s just… well… I just didn’t feel like writing it for a very long time. What… three weeks… a month? I didn’t really keep track. I just figured I’d write it when I felt like it.
I don’t really know what happened. My guess is that I took a much needed break from the fandom with an unintentional hiatus. I didn’t even know it was coming!!! …well… maybe I saw it a little bit… but I thought I could fight it off! I guess I couldn’t… but in the long run I think it’s what I needed. I feel very refreshed now. :)
But know this one thing: I SWEAR TO YOU I WILL NEVER ABANDON THIS FIC!!! No matter how long it takes for me to update I promise I will finish this fic! I’ve got too many good ideas to just throw them away… LOL
I hoped you missed me enough to tell me so in a lovely comment! :D
