My Thoughts on Current Events - "Eminentizing the Eschaton..."

Mar 11, 2009 13:29

I wrote this in one form or another to my fellow Egregoroi; but since then I've forwarded it to a couple of folks asking my opinion. So in an effort to share with folk I don't necessarily chat with on a day to day basis but may be curious about my perspective I figured I'd stick this hear for folk who for some odd reason still have this thing friended! :-)

Enjoy...

Eminentizing the Eschaton

...Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Reset

Hi Kids,

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and to get my own thoughts on the list...

The title for those of you who may not be film buffs comes from the Stanley Kubrick movie "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb", the first half of course was from a couple of genius friends of mine and their love of words.. Eminentizing... means "Making something eminent" Or "Bringing something about", the Eschaton is "The End of the World"... so the two together is "Bringing about the end of the world." GOD I love big words.

*grins* But to my point... first off, I'll be the first to say I don't mind the reset... I'm not angry or upset or railing... it's been a solid run for me.

My thoughts on my personal perspective is that with such a reset I'd most likely shelve Xavier... not sure just yet.

It comes down to "Goals" and "Things Left Undone"

I've done a fair job at nailing everything I really wanted with X.

* I've gotten Kindred Legend 1
* I've gotten and held Status 5 in both Clan and Covenant for a several years and have held them with pretty much no "grumbling from the cheap seats" at my worthiness to have it.
* I've helped define RP and theme for my Clan and at least a good part of my Covenant.
* I've founded one of the most vibrant and fun collections of RPers in Chronicle.
* I'm welcome and treated respectfully in pretty much every country, region and domain I've ever traveled too.
* Founded a Bloodline that has no equal or equivalent in source.

What's really left for me?

* Getting to use some of the cool stuff in the Mekhet Book, most of which I've already been playing at since character creation.

That's about it... there is really nowhere else to go.

Going from over 1200xp to 300xp, losing the bloodline, and dealing with the changes in the climate of the OD, while I'm far from stressed or upset about it, just doesn't seem that important or necessary when I've done all that I've wanted to do. So why worry about it?

And THAT is the most important bit, I'm not really upset about it.

Now my thoughts on the Reset for us as a group. For a lot of you kids this is your first one, some of you its your first one "In System", meaning your first reset that wasn't a change from Masquerade to Requiem. I live in Seattle, the land where old Players go to die (like the Elephant's Graveyard) and they've been through this like 8 times... since 92 or some junk. Its merely a way for us to shake up our gaming and actually be given a chance to try out new stories and new ideas. Now that we've seen how things actually work when players in a global environment get involved with material as written, now we can work out the kinks, make connections with folk that we KNOW are cool, avoid folks who have proven to be ahem... less than beneficial and have a more entertaining time.

Remember gang, our Characters weren't and aren't the source of our having fun! Our characters merely allowed us to channel the fun we could have in a one particular and positive way. Just because they are different and/or going away doesn't stop us from having access to the source of awesome that we channeled. Why? Cause that's us!!!

That's what makes gaming and stories in general cool. There are tons and tons of movies, books and stuff that we enjoy... finishing one series doesn't mean that our ability to enjoy a good tale is gone. Hell Hollywood has proven that they can reinvent old ideas and make them awesome again if the right minds are set to work on them. (GOD I can't wait to see Star Trek)

That said, we have several directions we can go; first we have to make some assumptions...

Let us assume that their will be an end of the world (as we know it) event, that legitmately rocks and shocks a great swathe of the supernatural population. Let us go on to assume that their will be a void and vacuum filled by new PCs and recovering Old PCs. That stated how can we deal with it.

#1... Over the course of the next two months we decide for ourselves who wants to continue going forward with their current PCs and who wants to try something new.

#2,,, We work on building a solid idea of who will be left as a total group to work with the stuff already created.

#3... We help those people work on the scripting for the changeover... work on creating the post-event breakdown of house, family, etc.

#4... We work to make sure the guys that stay behind have a nice transition, work with them to keep them awesome in a post reset world.

#5... We as a group talk and communicate about the new ideas that we'll be pursuing and for those of us making the new ideas work together with those we've really come to enjoy RPing with. We communicate as a collective and have chat sessions to build and create networks and ideas.

#6... We move on. We continue to hold to the ideas and friendships we created, we use that energy to restart, regroup and enjoy the reset with fresh ideas and the support of good RPers who can now spread out and dessimenate our cool in new ways.

Remember gang, I asked you all to join me, or allowed you to become a part of this group because someone (sometimes me sometimes another of us) saw that you were awesome. Resets don't end awesome... they allow us the chance to shake things up and take awesome to new and different levels of win!

Cheers,
The Management
