Crossing over
I just started playing Ar Tonelico 2 a few days ago and the potential for cross-overs won't stop flooding my mind. T.T Wikipedia entry here but give the official site a go if you've got the time, it's really pretty.
This game has overly-elaborate dialogue boxes, translation errors, bugs, and strives to make even the simplest action of going to the bathhouse too complicated for its own good, but that's not what I want to talk about.
The whole basis of the battle system in the Ar Tonelico series is there's a hero in the frontline and a heroine in the back. The heroine, known as a Reyvateil, spends the entire battle singing magical songs which either support the party by healing or attack the enemy. As Reyvateils are really fragile the hero in the front has to protect the heroine every time an enemy attacks by literally jumping in front of her and shielding her with his body.
Hero!59 and Reyvateil!27! "DO NOT WORRY TENTH! I SHALL PROTECT YOU WITH THIS WORTHLESS BODY OF MINE! YOU CAN DEPEND ON ME!" "Gokudera-kun! Please be careful! I don't have that much MP left to revive you agai--" And 59 gallantly leaps into the path of a flying dinosaur and gets eaten.
Of course, there's the other way around as well, which would have 59 actually charging out into the frontline to explode in the enemy's face whenever 27 gets so much as a scratch. "But Gokudera-kun, I'm supposed to be protecting you..." "HOW DARE YOU ATTACK THE TENTH! BURST MAXIMUM 58763343242343797%!!!!"
For Asakiku, there's no other way about it. It has to be Nihonloid. NIHONLOID I SAY, NIHONLOID. Hero!Japan and Reyvateil!Iggyloid could work as well I suppose, although that would produce another brutal Reyvateil. And the battlefield would be very crowded with the number of 'friends' Iggyloid would summon.
No, in my mind there is only hero!England and Reyvateil!Nihonloid. "I'm only protecting you for my own benefit, you understand. It'd be troublesome for me if you got injured or--" *spies a monster heading towards them* "DON'T EVEN THINK OF TOUCHING HIM, YOU MANGY LITTLE BLIGHTER."
