As the party was healing up and resting after their assault on Klegane's Keep, Holland coordinated with the "local" patrol Rangers via Calasso's septon. The rangers patrolling the eastern shore found two great boats crashed, one labeled Rockeater, and the other labeled Sludgewalker. They tracked the Rockeater tribe west in the direction of Chadwick and Millerford. The Sludgewalker tribe they tracked headed south, towards Tirn.

At the end of the week they headed back south to Chadwick, and walked in upon an odd sight. From the west of town came a party of men with wood working tools, all boasting of their bravery. The group was lead by none other than Limlee, this time wearing a holy symbol of the Seven. He was accompanied by an odd man obviously in druidic garb. Limlee explained that the druid had helped them to finally repair the brownies' door, but that he didn't know his name.

The druid introduced himself as Marius, speaking with a heavy Rhodese accent. (Rhoda is an unaffiliated, mercenary isle southeast of the empire.) He then explained he'd heard of the kobold troubles in the area, and was interested in helping out.

Cecil questioned Chadwick's headman, asking if there were any places he knew of that kobolds may roost in. The headman explained that, like most of the town, he wasn't very adventerous himself. However, there was an old friend of his, a woodsman, who explored quite a bit in his youth and would likely know. Following the directions given, Cecil found the old man's hut on a farm north of town and questioned him. The old man told him of a series of caves east of town, one of them an old temple of Tiwaz. Naturally, Cecil's archaeological interest was piqued. He questioned the old woodsman in great detail about the temple. The man reacted oddly, assuring Cecil several times there was nothing of value left in the temple. Cecil assured him that his interest was not in treasure, and asked for directions. The woodsman laughed, and told Cecil to send him someone with woodsense. That night, Holland visited and received directions to three caves and to the temple itself.

The next day, the party and the odd druid that they had met headed to the cave closest to town. Along the way they fought kobold patrols and hunting parties armed with club, short sword, and occasionally bows. They took one prisoner, who Dezu interrogated. In each altercation, Cecil took wounds that took him out of the fight. During this time, they discovered Marius to be a boon companion, one who often jumped into a melee to mundanely patch up a wound quickly before it could bleed or worsened. His battle ministrations proved to be effective enough to put warm bodies back into the fight. Upon reaching the cave, a pitched battle was had. The party won, although they took rather grievous wounds. After some argument, they slaughtered the kobold women huddling in the back of the cave. In the back right corner of the cave, there was a tunnel too small for any human or dwarf to squeeze through. Dezu assumed a blessing of her god, and changed her shape to fit. In the back she found the leader's cave, and his personal woman. She came out and informed the party of her findings, but they were unable to get back in to kill the woman. After some discussion, the party decided to return to Chadwick and report their findings. (Along the way, they forgot their kobold prisoner, who was presumably freed by the woman. They did check back at this cave, but the two kobolds were long gone.)

In Chadwick, they rested to allow for healing once again, and reported their findings to the provincial governor through the town's septon. Sir Vincent underwent a vigil in grief at the deaths of the kobold women. Cecil held a vigil of prayer about his bad luck, and decided he's been casting alarm overmuch and had angered Matteus. Several days later, the septon brought word to them that the governor didn't want to mobilize the Imperial Foot. Instead, he was offering the party 200 gold pieces each for the succesful eradication of the kobold infestation. The party readily agreed to the deal. Holland recruited Limlee to help them, offering him half of his reward and a share of the treasure. While in town, they settle on the name "Defenders of the Truscan Frontier" as their party name.

They left town, going to the next cave on their list, facing kobolds along the way but no wild animals. It had a small entrance, so they attempted to smoke the inhabitants out. For reasons unknown to the party, the kobolds never came out, and instead died inside. Dezu once again changed her shape, and went into confirm their deaths and retrieve the treasure. That night, a patrol from a different cave attacked them during the night. Sir Vincent suggested to Holland that they see where these kobolds came from. They followed the tracks back to a previously unknown cave, called by the kobolds Cave 3. Obviously originally a manmade structure, it had stairs descending into it. Cecil cast Grease on the stairs, and Lucius attempted to taunt the kobolds out over the grease. The kobolds, seeing the grease, chose not to rush the humans. Eventually, the party settled on a frontal assault of the cave. It was a hard battle, with Holland fighting five at a time alone, and Dezu stepping up to tank three after Sir Vincent and Cecil fell. Marius again showed off his crazy combat healing.

Injured, they chose to return to town before trying the final cave and Tiwaz's temple. When they were feeling stronger, they once again set out, this time without Marius. (Marius had been called away.) They had a hard fight along the way with a pair of warthogs that dropped several party members. They were foced to camp in the woods until Holland and Sir Vincent were again ready to travel. Along the way to the last cave, they passed Cave 3 again. That night they were attacked by only two kobolds. Dezu charmed one, and discovered an interesting story. The kobolds knew about Cave 3's destruction, and had sent messengers back to the temple. Apparently, kobolds for the fourth and final cave had come to Cave 3 to tell them a great message: a holy artifact had been found. He told her of a holy shield of Tiwaz that the shaman had unearthed, too big for any kobold to wield. As the party discussed what to do with him, Dezu pretended to interrogate him further and instead encouraged him to escape. His escape attempt tragically ended in a magic missile from Cecil. They went back to Cave 3, and discovered kobolds from the last cave there, chopping up their dead for parts. They slaughtered the kobolds, disgusted. They hastened on their path to the final cave, greatly desiring to kill the messengers so that the cave not be alerted to their coming. They came upon them later that night and dispatched them efficiently.

The next day, the party found the last cave. This time, Cecil, Dezu, and Limlee had long discussions of tactics. The fight with the final cave saw grease used much more effectively, with a phantasmal fog keeping it from view. Lucius was the center meleer of this fight due to his short stature. Several kobolds escaped into a secret door, and in the end they decided to collapse the entrance and leave the kobolds for dead.

They found the temple easily, and with no encounters along the way.

Holland invisibly infilitrated the temple first, coming out every half hour to keep them aware of his progress and continued life. He found no traps, but four archers on top of the temple. The party split up to flank the kobolds. Cecil and Vincent charged them as Lucius sniped one down and Holland backstabbed another. Dezu and Limlee stayed back, ready to work illusory magics.

Unbeknowst to them at the time, Cecil and Vincent were charging directly overhead the birthing chamber of the kobolds, and by the time they'd made it down the hill every kobold in the temple knew they were there. So after efficiently slaying the scouts, they were met with a fierce hail of arrows at the door. Limlee cleared the arrow fire with an illusory wall of fire, and the DotTF worked their way in. The fight to the main room was a stiff fight. Vincent and Holland had to clear a side room each, and Dezu and Limlee did their best to make believable fireballs to take down their many opponents. By the time they were in the main worship room, the kobolds knew better than to be tricked by Dezu's illusions. As the melee in the main room began, Dezu and Vincent were both overtaken by a magical sleep. Their companions dragged them out of the way and punched them in the face to wake them up.

They won the main room, and then had an argument of how to suceed. Limlee meanwhile held the line to the next room with a "stinking cloud". Cecil finally won, and they assaulted the newly dug out altar room. They fought the shaman and his guards, and slew them all. [DM sigh moment, the shaman had Color Spray, but rolled a 10 on init.] In the altar room, they discovered the shield the kobold scout had mentioned. It was a bronze medium shield, inscribed with many ruins but only the top stanza was visible. "Mother Tiwaz blessed my maker; Mother Tiwaz bless my bearer". The altar also bore an inscription: "Aegishmirt"

After some argument, Cecil decided to use the shield. They proceeded to the deepest parts of the temple, most of them grievously wounded. These kobolds had not seen Dezu's magics, so after slaugtering the men guarding the eggs and children, they approached chieftan's room with her in the lead. At the last moment, Cecil stood in front of her in an attempt to catch the hail of arrows that would surely come. Mysteriously, the chief and his guards instead dropped their bows, and were all knocked out cold by Dezu's illusory fire.

After slaughtering the many unconscious kobos, they began looting. Holland picked the locks on two of the chests, and Lucius used his stonemasonry and a crowbar on the last one. It was more riches than any of them had ever seen in their life, a vast fortune worth of gems.

They headed back to Chadwick once again to rest, and from there to the provincial governor's keep to report and collect their pay. The governor's seneschal questioned them very thoroughly, and they were honest on the point of how many kobolds had gotten away. He awarded them their full pay, and they sold back the many weapons they had collected to the Imperial Foot. With their newly found wealth they purchased the mounts they had been renting up to that point.

On their way back to Tirn, they were told a young witch might want to join them. They left a message for both her and Marius to find them at the Broken Boar's Head in Tirn.
