Yes, but its not about your opinion :) Its about what players want to make them feel more in character. Its another level of realism to a fantasy game.
And If I want to stab people with a ruddy great cicile like shard of sapphire, then I sodding well will, whether you think its unreal or not.
And besides, whos to say I wouldnt describe it as a big sword made from a shard of magic ice? Or some other sort of thingy wotnot?
