Haven't updated in a while, but boy have things changed at work. I've now taken over a project and am trying to hit the ground running. My previous two projects have been for future product, which means I focus on the new part, making sure it meets requirements, keeping up with any found issues or requested changes. Both of those projects were themselves based on existing product, so it was easier than normal. Well, my new project covers current and future product, which means trying to resolve remaining issues on existing vehicles going through two model years, while at the same time working on an entirely new part with all its proofing and constant changes. Fortunately the new part has a "partner" part that can help find issues, but other than that, lots and lots to do now.
For the last two and a half years, I've been working mostly off the top of my head; I would come in the mornings and just re-read previous e-mails to remember the things I was working on the day before. I realized the craziness I was getting into last week when I started getting forwarded e-mails every fifteen minutes: I'd be working on resolving an item in an e-mail and then I'd get hit by two more! The end of the day comes and I feel in a daze, and though my mind is still doing its good job of reminding me of all the things I'm supposed to work on, I now need to write all of my items down so I can prioritize. Sure, I might have a dozen things to do, but out of those dozen, some can wait a couple of days and some must be done now.
So, I'm trying. I felt like I was swiping at icebergs today, but hopefully as I get through these major items I'll have time to catch my breath :P. This work week already feels quite long.
Oh, and in other news, my fandoms are colliding. Jonathan Coulton was part of John Hodgman's book tour for "The Areas of My Expertise"? Brian Wilson asked Rufus Wainwright to sing a Smile medley for the War Child benefit CD album? Ooo, they give me goosebumps!
