AWA 2008
The Convention of CLAMP. Seriously. I only had..oh..5 CLAMP costumes. I'll never escape from its clutches.
Anyway, con report! Before I give my big MRI result/Chemo day report tomorrow.
Thursday
Started out at 10AM with the plan of taking it nice and slow and getting there safe. I printed off my 4 pages of directions and loaded up my carload of crap. The trip down was fairly uneventful, mostly because it was all back roads and I had to stay pretty focused to go from line to line on my FOUR PAGES of directions. In my efforts of understanding said directions I actually accidentally ran a red light. u_u Luckily it was a small back road town and there wasn't any traffic other then the guy sitting at the red light in the turning lane. At least it wasn't a full intersection..just a three way...still, I felt bad for doint it.
Got to the convention a little over 6 hours later (even making three stops that is all it took). Met up with Hersha (Dark) who helped me unload my stuff and we attempted to make it into the hotel with just one trip. Unfortunetly as we were attempting to get up the ramp the cart got stuck and my phone started ringing at the sametime. While answering my phone a group came up behind us with a cart and needed to get up the ramp as well. While we were trying to unstick the cart it started to topple over. I quickly hung up and grabbed at the card to prevent it from crashing. With the lpe of the people behind us we managed to get it upright and into the hotel. Minor damage was caused to my sun staff but it wasn't something a little hot glue and touch up spray paint couldn't fix (yes, I took the spray paint..I wasn't taking any chances).
After that I unpacked my three suitcases worth of crap and started to get things together to go to the Happy Fun Sale with my stuff in an attmept to make some money and get rid of anime stuff that was just sitting around my house collecting dust. I tried to fix up Dark's wig which was looking a little flat and also made the repairs to my staff.
Once the repairs were done and things were organized it was time to head to the con for pre-reg. As Dark and I were heading to the con with my stuff Utai and CardcaptorKiki showed up and helped me carry my stuff. While they got in line for registration, I set up my table.
I actually sold about 2/3 of the stuff I took so that was pretty awesome. I even sold some of my pillows and keychains from the artist table that I decided to stick on there at the last moment. Then as we were walking the stuff back to the hotel I made another sale. A girl saw my Vincent pillow from down the hall and rushed over to buy it XD I threw in a free Vincent Keychain for the hell of it.
After we got back to the hotal room, Dark and I decided to go and get some dinner since I hadn't eaten yet and was under strict orders to eat and sleep regularly. As we were walking to the car we spotted the other three that were going to be staying in our room (who we actually didn't expect to see until Friday). I was just glad I had moved my stuff into our section of the suite beforehand. So we ate dinner and went back to the hotel room were I went about making repairs to various costume pieces...including a big furry pokemon's head o_O
Soon after that we went to bed.
Friday
Woke up and got into Infinity Fai. Just as we were getting ready to go, Kiki's collar stopped working. We switched out batteries and I tried to mess with it but it was just not working. I was not pleased that my brand new neonlights were broken and promised to replace it for the next convention. So we headed off to the con. I signed up for the cosplay contest (I was entry #2) and went outside to grab some pictures..some serious..many crack XD

The statues were fun. While Kiki was standing next to the statue a police officer came up to us. I figured he was going to yell at us for standing in the flowers but he was actually very friendly. He told us we could take any pictures we wanted in the gardens but if we wanted pictures by the buildings we were going to have to ask permission. He said it was because of 9/11 and that they just had to be careful. He told us to have fun though and wandered back off. I was glad we weren't yelled at.

We then collected Kiki's friend to be our photographer so we could get a couple group shots. I'll be putting all the pictures into my gallery soon.
Then we headed inside and went to the dealer's room to get a first look at the goodies inside. I was also on the hunt for lasarfhiona's artist table but started at the wrong end and so I wasn't able to find it. We headed back out to the lobby to wait for the CLAMP photoshoot that I was guessing was at 1 (I was wrong). I did get to see and harass Genjitsu for the first time of the convention though.
We headed back to the hotel to get changed. Kiki put on her clow country Sakura and I put on my first of two new costumes. My 2nd movie Cardcaptor Sakura Syaoran outfit. The shoes are rediculous.
We headed back to the convention and just as we got there we got stopped for our picture by Lionboogy. I stayed quiet to see how long it would take for him to recognize me. He took our picture and then got Kiki's picture alone and then asked me for mine. After he took my picture he looked up and then hesitated for a second. Then the lighbulb turned on XD We chatted for a few minutes and then Kiki and I went back to the dealer's room, this time starting at the other end where the artist alley type dealers were. We kept getting our picture taken which was funny because of our strange crossover-yet-not crossoverness. I finally found lasarfhiona and stopped to chat with them for awhile.
Once we were done in the dealer's room we went out and I got some nachos for lunch. It was there that Genjitsu came up behind us and asked for our picture. I jokingly told him no and thats when he realized who I was XD He sat down with us and hung out for awhile before he had to get back to "work". He took some fun pictures of Kiki twirling in her Sakura outfit.
Now fed and content we walked around a little while and then Kiki decided to go put on her ball outfit which was Sakura's 2nd movie dress. I decided to hang out for awhile since I didn't want to walk back to the hotel in my crazy clown shoes until I absolutely had to. I sat around and watched people until she got back. There were a lot of normal people at the far end of the con because a baby convention was going on.
When she got back we headed to the lobby where Evenstar was and got grabbed a few pictures for us.

We hung out for awhile before I finally made the trek back to the hotel to change into Jade fai. Everyone else was going to the ball but I figured I would just walk around. Dark and Utai got into their DN Angel outfits that I made for them and Kiki was already into her Sakura outfit. We headed back to the con and wandered around for awhile. We got our all important Pimp Cane Picture

I got something to eat at Subway while everyone was at the ball. As I was walking through the halls one guy yelled "That is FUCKING Brilliant" as I walked past. I was amused and pleased by that. Then on my quest for a coke, Kiki and I headed back to the ball area to get some ones (since that was all the machines took). As I approached a swarm of cosplayers decended upon me XD They kept asking me questions as to how I made it and kept complimenting it. It was embarassing but made me happy too since I put a lot of work into Jade. We then went off and hung out until everyone was done at the ball and went back to the hotel for some sleep.
Saturday
Woke up and began the two hour prep process of getting into Kougaiji. Surprisingly though I was able to bind correctly and there was limited showing of my scars. Dark and I headed to the convention to sign him up for the cosplay contest. They were entry number 76 or something crazy like that. We then walked around, waiting for the Sanzo crew to catch up. His sister and her friends were all in their Saiyuki outfits and Dark was in the Homura outfit that I made for him. Once they were there we went back outside to the gardens to grab some quick shots before we had to change into our contest outfits.

Then we rushed back to the hotel and all hell broke loose XD
I changed quickly into part of Eriol and then started to help Kiki into her wings that I made her while Dark and Utai put on their formal DN ANgel outfits. As I was adjusting Kiki's wings a bottle of foundation fell and shattered, splashing onto my Eriol shirt. Utai tried to clean it off but it didn't want to come off. Didn't matter much since I wear a cape so I wasn't too worried. The harness of Kiki's wings was too big to go down her costume which was the original plan for it so we had to find someway to put the straps on the inside of her costume, while keeping the harness on the outside. We finally figured out a way to do it and I sent Dark and Utai on their way to the judging so that they wouldn't be late while I grabbed the rest of my stuff and rushed to the convention in half of my costume and still with my special Kougaiji binding on since I didn't have time to put on a bra and bind myself normally.
While they stood in line I put on my wig and hat and tried to get everything together with Kiki's help. Then when I was ready I went over and stood with Dark and Utai while Kiki went off to wait in the lobby for everyone. My judging wasn't until 1:45 but that was only an hour away and I hadn't even looked in a mirror to see whether I was put together right or not.
Finally it was our turn and I did my best to explain how I made both of their costumes but I am sure I forgot to explain a lot. Then as they went off to go to panels I ran to the bathroom to adjust myself. While I was in there the judges came in as well. I finished fixing myself and then went BACK to the judging area to fill out my forms and stand in line again since I only had about 10 minutes before my scheduled time.
I got through the line and did my judging. The judges looked at my seams and things and were much more friendly then last years. I just hurried off to the lobby to meet up with Evenstar in her Yue costume and Kiki. I got there and was immediatly glomped by two Magic Knights Rayearth cosplayers.
We went outside to get some pictures
While I was standing there for the picture I felt something drop down the front of my costume. I knew immediatly what it was and panicked slightly. I turned around when the photographer was done and started to fish around the inside of my shirt. Just as I suspected what I had felt was my boob petal thing fall off the one side. The binding was already around my waist instead of doing any good and so I just took that off completely. I continued to search for the missing petal but couldn't find it anywhere in my costume or on the ground which I thought was wierd. Giving up I checked myself to see if the fact that I was completely and utterly naked and exposed was noticeable. Luckily for me I was wearing a cape and I have nothing to hide XD

So we headed inside, me feeling 1/2 exposed but not wanting to go back to the hotel, get completely undressed only to put it all back on again. So instead we went to get something to eat. I went back to the nacho place and got some more nachos and of course who shows up...Genjitsu! He is like some sort of food magnet. He snaps a few pictures and sits down to chat while I munch on my nachos.
When I was done eating we went down to the lobby and Lionboogy caught us for some pictures. We also discussed EPIC MANLY AUSA PHOTOSHOOT. it will be EPIC.
And then Genjitsu showed up again and I declared I was going to become the cosplayer that took pictures of the photographers taking pictures of cosplayers
Then Kiki and I decided to go watch the Tsubasa OAD which actually had a line to go see it. I hadn't seen it yet. At the end of the third episode I heard sniffling behind me and saw that Kiki was actually crying because of the episode. It was cute and amusing since apparently she cries everytime she watches it. Poor Syaoran and fai *tear* We headed upstairs to get her some tissues and walk around a little more before I had to get ready to go onstage for the contest.
I got to the room I was supposed to be in and they sent me to the front since they were lining us up in order of our number. I happened to be just in front of Star_Angel so I actually had someone to talk to. While they were trying to get us situated they moved me back adn forth about three times trying to figure out where I should stand to be 2nd in line. When I thought they finally had me where they wanted me I sat down. And thats when something amusing happened. A Kallen was in front of me and she goes:
"Do you go to Animazement?"
Me: Yes
Her: "Are you the Mahna Mahna Sasuke?"
Me: *Sweatdrop, laugh* Yes I am
Lord. Even at a con 6 hours away I am known as the Mahna Mahna Sasuke. Like I told her, at least it meant it was a memorable skit XD And then I was promptly moved back to the other side of the room. But it wasn't for long because they then filed us out of the room and into the kitchen to wait for out turn to go onstage.
It seemed like we waited forever but finally we were sent one by one on stage. The announcers (voice actor Vic) completely butchered Eriol's name but the crowd understood it anyway. I got a huge cheer when I walked on stage. Then I headed around to the back of the room and watched the rest of the walk=ons. Dark and Utai also got a large cheer when they walked on.
After the contest we all headed back to the room to get changed. I changed into Ginji and decided to load some of my stuff into my car. Dark changed into Ban and helped me with my suitcases and then we all headed back to the con. We got subway to eat and ate in the lobby where some rather disturbing CCS action took place between kiki and utai XD
I got to talk with lots of people while I was there, including lasarfhiona again. Then it was back to the room with Kiki where we tried to wait for Utai and Dark to come back but fell asleep in the process. Unfortunetly for me the air mattress was flat when we returned to the room and I wasn't sure how to fill it up so I just left it flat. Luckily there were some extra pillows to sleep on.
Sunday
Got into child Fai and loaded up the rest of my stuff. Kiki and I drove to the convention and immediatly went to spend some money in the dealer's room. I was determined to be good but ended up spending $50 at the book place on a couple magazines and the newest Tsubasa hardcover. Then as we were looking at some manga I spotted an Eyeshield 21 artbook. thats right..EYESHIELD 21 ARTBOOK. Oh yes..it had to be mine. And then I was basically out of cash (i only brought in a little so as to prevent myself from going crazy). I had enough to get something to eat and that was it.
I ate while Kiki looked through her very first doujinshi *tear* aww. It was a really cute looking Tsubasa one. But much to her dismay there was no smut XD I then went and said my goodbyes to lasarfhiona and we went out to wander around.
As I was headed down the artist alley a girl stopped me and was like, "Are you child Fai?" When I nodded she went "Oh my God! Thats awesome!" I made her very happy XD
I said goodbye to Lionboogy as well and went down to sit in the lobby.
Thats when my father called and said I needed to leave by 1:30 to beat the Atlanta football traffic. So we headed upstairs to the dealers room and met up with Dark and Utai. Kiki and I shared a fruit smoothie while we looked at our new goodies and then it was time to go. So sadly I said the rest of my goodbyes and headed out to my car.
I was hoping for a relatively uneventful trip home but that was not to be. As I was driving out of Georgia I passed by a kitchen chair that was sitting in the middle of one of the lanes of traffic. Luckily everyone seemed to miss it and a few miles later a guy with a bunch of furniture in the back of his truck was pulled over so apparently he was going to try and go back for his chair.
Later I tried to get gas in South Carolina but that proved to be difficult.
Gas station 1: No regular gas
Gas station 2: No gas
Gas Station 3: No gas
Gas Station 4: Only regular gas, nothing else
I was perplexed and amused. Luckily it was 30cents cheaper then it is here and so I filled up my tank and continued on. Then once I was back in North Carolina I saw another 2 chairs sitting in the road. And I also witnessed an accident...or at least the tail end of one. A lady must have fallen asleep or something and swirved from the left lane straight into the right lane guardrail. A few cars stopped to help.
The trip took a little over 5 hours and I took the direct route home instead of all those crazy back roads that mapquest was going to send me on.

I got a huge cheer when I walked on stage. Then I headed around to the back of the room and watched the rest of the walk=ons. Dark and Utai also got a large cheer when they walked on.
After the contest we all headed back to the room to get changed. I changed into Ginji and decided to load some of my stuff into my car. Dark changed into Ban and helped me with my suitcases and then we all headed back to the con. We got subway to eat and ate in the lobby where some rather disturbing CCS action took place between kiki and utai XD
I got to talk with lots of people while I was there, including lasarfhiona again. Then it was back to the room with Kiki where we tried to wait for Utai and Dark to come back but fell asleep in the process. Unfortunetly for me the air mattress was flat when we returned to the room and I wasn't sure how to fill it up so I just left it flat. Luckily there were some extra pillows to sleep on.
Sunday
Got into child Fai and loaded up the rest of my stuff. Kiki and I drove to the convention and immediatly went to spend some money in the dealer's room. I was determined to be good but ended up spending $50 at the book place on a couple magazines and the newest Tsubasa hardcover. Then as we were looking at some manga I spotted an Eyeshield 21 artbook. thats right..EYESHIELD 21 ARTBOOK. Oh yes..it had to be mine. And then I was basically out of cash (i only brought in a little so as to prevent myself from going crazy). I had enough to get something to eat and that was it.
I ate while Kiki looked through her very first doujinshi *tear* aww. It was a really cute looking Tsubasa one. But much to her dismay there was no smut XD I then went and said my goodbyes to lasarfhiona and we went out to wander around.
As I was headed down the artist alley a girl stopped me and was like, "Are you child Fai?" When I nodded she went "Oh my God! Thats awesome!" I made her very happy XD
I said goodbye to Lionboogy as well and went down to sit in the lobby.
Thats when my father called and said I needed to leave by 1:30 to beat the Atlanta football traffic. So we headed upstairs to the dealers room and met up with Dark and Utai. Kiki and I shared a fruit smoothie while we looked at our new goodies and then it was time to go. So sadly I said the rest of my goodbyes and headed out to my car.
I was hoping for a relatively uneventful trip home but that was not to be. As I was driving out of Georgia I passed by a kitchen chair that was sitting in the middle of one of the lanes of traffic. Luckily everyone seemed to miss it and a few miles later a guy with a bunch of furniture in the back of his truck was pulled over so apparently he was going to try and go back for his chair.
Later I tried to get gas in South Carolina but that proved to be difficult.
Gas station 1: No regular gas
Gas station 2: No gas
Gas Station 3: No gas
Gas Station 4: Only regular gas, nothing else
I was perplexed and amused. Luckily it was 30cents cheaper then it is here and so I filled up my tank and continued on. Then once I was back in North Carolina I saw another 2 chairs sitting in the road. And I also witnessed an accident...or at least the tail end of one. A lady must have fallen asleep or something and swirved from the left lane straight into the right lane guardrail. A few cars stopped to help.
The trip took a little over 5 hours and I took the direct route home instead of all those crazy back roads that mapquest was going to send me on.
