Absolutely do not read if you haven't watched KR Faiz, at all.
So.
I finished watching the Kamen Rider Faiz movie. I feel that I can speak more about it then the actual series, since there was less time to get as in-depth as the series did.
This doesn't mean that the movie was any less intense, however.
The movie is an Alternate Universe retelling of the end of Kamen Rider Faiz. Some of the situations have been lifted from the end of Faiz, but the fact that this is an entirely different universe altogether means that they happen somewhat differently.
In this alternate version of Faiz, the Ryuseijuku are no more. The Orphanochs have taken over the world, and what little humans are left are all in hiding. It's truly a post-apocolyptic premise, which made my little nerd heart happy. What's not happy, however, is how hard this has hit our band of protagonists.
Mari is now the take-no-shit leader of the human resistance. Keitaro is her second-in-command. Both have changed greatly, but they still hold onto what little hope they have--especially now that Takumi is missing in action, presumed dead.
THAT'S RIGHT. When I heard that, I nearly howled out loud. Seriously, guys? REALLY? OMFG. D:
Kusaka, for lack of a better word, has completely snapped. While I was watching Paradise Lost, I actually was genuinely scared whenever he showed up. Scared, yes, because I knew what had happened to him in the show--but I was actually MORE scared for Mari and Keitaro. Every single time he stalked into the picture, I was seriously worried that he would do something horrible. Props to the actor, man--I was totally creeped out every single time he hovered around Mari. Still, because I had understood his character in the show, I could see how he could have gotten to this point. *shudders*.
I'd like to take a moment and say how much I love Yuka in this film. You can tell she's gained some strength and a lot of insight, and therefore has the courage to take on a lot of horrifying things. She also sees right through Kaido's blustering, which made me go "Awwwwwww".
Kaido is Kaido, as always. He's easier to see through this time around, however.
I can't speak about Yuji Kiba without tearing up again, so let's not go there. ;A; AAAAAGH.
Lucky Clover isn't around, or has been apparently destroyed. This means no Ray. > :
But we do get Murakami-head-in-a-jar:
As well as--OH HELLO THERE. WHO MIGHT YOU BE?
HELLOOOOOOOO LEEOOOOOOO. * ____ *
I-I don't obsess over Psyga.
Seriously guys, I totally don't think he's the sexiest thing ever, or that his wushu style of fighting is absolutely fucking hot.
Okay, maybe I do. I'M SO SHALLOW. *___* PSYGAAAA~
The theme this time around was "surviving against all odds, and continuing to believe." It's one out of the many themes from the original show, and it doesn't go as in-depth as the show, because it can't--but oh my god.
OH MY GOD. I never have actually cried during KR--the closest I've gotten is tearing up--but this movie actually made me cry. Everything with Kiba in it--oh god, Kibaaaaa ;A;--Kaido, Yuka--arghhhhgdkl.
Mari and Takumi's relationship--I actually can't put a name to it, even though it clearly is love--was reinforced even more here. Good LORD, I didn't think I'd get all sissy girly over a scene like the one where they dance and Mari clearly wants to reach out to him but can't--BUT I DID.
I couldn't believe I was chanting "oh god, remember, remember, REMEMBER DAMMIT ;;;A;;;;" in my head. When he finally did, I cried. WTF ME.
I'd go into detail more, but I've TL;DR'd enough. Thoughts overall--it was an excellent companion piece to the Faiz series, and I'm glad I watched it after I watched the series. Some parts of it didn't have as much oomph as it could have (such as the "omg Takumi is the Wolf Orphenoch!!11one!" moment, which was waved around for all of a few seconds) or some could have been handled better (the Mina subplot, while it did reinforce the theme of friendship and trust, was pretty bullshitty and felt as if it was tossed in at the last second.)
It was good on a shallow level (OMG PSYGAAAA~) and it was good on a deeper level as well (OH, EVERYONE ;A;).
Lastly, I'll end with this:
And now, I think I'm going to go watch Hyper Battle, because by god, I need a pick-me-up.
*Sobs*
EDIT: Hyper Battle absolutely destroyed me. Kaido. Kaido. KAIIIIDOOOOOO.
The short shorts, Smart Lady's EVIL MASTER PLAN OF EVIL, Kamen Rider the Musical, and Takumi living out his secret dream of being a badass, singin', swingin' Easy Rider guy just KILLED me. GODDAMMIT TOEI. ilu. <3
