Bars

there's this place i get stuck
          sometimes
stuck, can't get out. can't get free
          sometimes
can't escape those chains
          sometimes
want to run but there's
          walls
blocking you in, always
          walls
like some kind of  shoebox
          walls
with a lid stuck on with glue

i get stuck in my head
          sometimes
can't get out, can't get free
          no, never
thoughts are chains, long and
          metal
want to run but there's walls
          sometimes
blocking you in like a cage
          walls
of the proverbial sense
          walls
'cause you can't leave your head
when the cranium sticks together
like a lid stuck on with glue

there's a prison in my mind, i think
i get stuck there too often, too
          much floating
          sometimes
filling me like a helium balloon
          'til i want to burst
          sometimes
          no, never
can you burst, because your
skull cap
          is
               stuck
                    on
                         with
                              glue
and sinew, and veins, streams
of life in your
          mind
and you're stuck in your
          mind
and you can't really
          mind
because if you escape from
          thought-chains
          get unstuck
          get out, get free
then who the hell are you, anyway

can't get out of your mind, sometimes
can't get rid of your thoughts, sometimes
'cause there's bars in your mind, that's why
and they're caging you
          in.
