WAC 1- Tamil Poetry

Nov 07, 2007 16:14

So we had to do some Tamil style poems for my Introduction to World Arts and Cultures class... thought I'd share mine. They are based on real feelings and actual conversations and things. So yes.

What She Said

I am here, here in this town
of lights and motor oil
of endless roads and street lamps
aching to be seen within the
haze.

And you are there, surrounded
by ice, by snow, by frozen
terrain, flat plains
and I cannot stand to be
so far from you

But What are we now?
Disconnected, I think
just like the roads and street
lamps, and the cool air and frozen
ground
beneath the ice.

What He Said

Her eyes are geen like
new pine needles fresh from
the branch, bright like a new day

Her feet are planted as
she walks, roots of the tree
that drinks the water from
the earth.

Her heart is a cone with
sharp armor to the world and
a soft center just
for me.

And this one is not Tamil poetry, this is just a blurb I wrote while everyone else was reciting theirs, but related to the previous two poems.

Things I Want to Ask

Do you think about me? I don't really care if you do. I just want to know.

Do you notice me? We're so far away, I won't blame you if you don't.

Do the important things like death and natural disaster make you think of me? Is that why you only call when these occur, only appear to care when I may be in danger or in pain? Should I be glad that this is when you call? Should I be worried? I don't want to feel either. I just want to know if I should be feeling something. If you feel something.

Do you miss talking to me? Is that why you don't want to talk each day? Is that why you've become distanced? The physical distance wasn't a problem, at first. It still isn't. It's the emotional distance that is a problem. I don't care if you miss me or not, I just want to know.

A boy just performed a rap he wrote, a rap like my poems, and it made me laugh, and you would have laughed too. I want to tell you about it. We don't talk anymore. And I don't really care. But I just want you to know about it.
