Yesterday was day two with challenge of going without spending. I am sorry that I did not have time to write my entry last night. I thought I would have time to write it, before my guy came over. But, I was wrong. You see, I am currently collecting information for an article for my school newspaper...an investigative piece. I spent yesterday afternoon scanning the internet for information: gathering statistics, collecting interviews, and so on. I got lost in my work, and before I knew it, it was 7 p.m. My guy was due to arrive at any minute. So, I had absolutely NO time left to write.
Even this morning has been an insane morning. I have been extremely busy with gathering more information, as well as confirming that everything is in place for me to graduate in October....SO EXCITED! By the way, I just got my grade for the class I was in. I got an A. Go me! Now, I just have to kick butt in the Capstone class, JRN 497. I start this class next week. I am completely TERRIFIED! (Why is it that when you get closer to graduation, you seem to stress out more about classes than you had before?) I have spent my entire experience at Ashford University getting amazing grades. Hell...the class that just ended, as I said, I did very well in. I got a 96.67%. Up until ab out June of this year, I never really worried about my grades. I knew if I did the work--if I read the material, and put my time it--I was bound to get top-notch grades. But then graduation started to grow closer and closer. And it started freak me out! Now, preparing to enter my last class, I feel even more nervous than I did when I started at Ashford. (Of course, it doesn't help matters that my academic advisor let me know that every class leading up to this could be considered a 'piece of cake'. "The Capstone class," he told me, as we set it up in my schedule "is rather difficult. The work load tends to be a bit more. And the instructors are looking for absolute PERFECTION!"
I kind of wish the class had started this week. The classes begin on Tuesday, and the class week ends on Monday. If I had my way, yesterday would have been the start of my final class. But no...my advisor had to be ever so nice, and give me a "week off from school...just to give you some time to relax, before the Capstone."
Relas? HAH! Nothing about this week is relaxing. There is nothing worse than waiting. Every second that passes--every second that I am not in that class--I find myself going mad. I need to start this class. I need to know what it will be like.
The waiting is killing me.
Anyway...I am sure none of you really care about my anxiety over this class. God knows you don't come to read about my college existence.
Day 2 without spending.
Yesterday was just HORRIBLE! I swear, my icloud account was BOMBARDED, all day long, with all these different companies, sending me emails. 1800 Flowers "misses" me. (I am a huge lover of bouquets. I will typically buy one, for just about any reason at all.) They told me, in this email, that they had a HUGE deal for me. If I bought 12 roses, I would get 6 free, as well as a free vase. Also, Summer lilies are 40% off. Now, flowers may not seem like all that big a deal. Most people could get email like this, and just ignore it completely. Most people don't buy flowers as though they were some type of accessory. I am not "most people". Stupid me, I clicked the link on this email, and was transported to the 1800 Flowers website--the virtual world of temptation. Every bouquet I saw was more beautiful than the last. And I wanted to buy them all. There were so many bouquets that I saw, and thought that my guy would LOVE!
As I was torturing myself by looking at roses, and lilies, and orchids, and daisies--those cute little bouquets that look like cupcakes, or dogs in baskets--another email found its way to me. "Ding," my compute sounded.
William-Sonoma. Oh, another way that I just love to spend, spend, spend. (The funny part is that I really don't cook that much. I just love having all the gadgets, in case I ever feel that need.) They have their Halloween collection out now. Halloween has always been a favorite of mine. So, as I saw the black skull shaped punch bowl, I began to whine...only $69.95. (Okay, even I can admit--even as I really, REALLY want to just break down and buy this product--that I may have an issue. $69.95 may be a bit too much to pay for a punch bowl. Especially one that won't be used year round.)
Yesterday, after torturing myself, by looking at all the emails that were sent to me, I came with an idea.
We all KNOW that I am going to buy that cane, at the end of this little sacrifice. There is not big surprise there.
But I am also going to allow myself to make one more purchase. A way to treat myself, if you will...for a job well-done.
Yesterday, I started a list. I began to write every single thing that I saw, and wanted to buy. I will keep this list going, throughout the remainder of this sacrifice. Then, when this no spending thing is over, I will look over the list, and decide which single item I will get the most out of. Which one will I enjoy the most.
Not only will this give me something to do, to help ease the pain of not being able to spend. But it will also let me prioritize my purchase--something that I have never done before. It will teach me responsibility. Which item will benefit me the most. Then, I will buy that item. I think that is a healthy way to make a purchase, actually.
I am happy that I have 2 days down, with this particular sacrifice. Hopefully, the next 19 will ZOOM by!
Tomorrow, by the way, I will not be able to blog about today, until later in the evening. Most likely, my next post will combine my experiences of today, as well as tomorrow.
