Several people have asked me if I have a playlist for "Kill Switch," and though I don't have what I would call an "official" one of some sort, as with "Be Here Now," I do have songs that I listened to a lot while I wrote specific sections of the novel. Some were just mood pieces for sections, some had lyrics that I thought were particularly appropriate, some inspired specific scenes or sections. Some might be repeats from the "Be Here Now" playlist -- I'm pretty boring that way. ;-) I'm also a big Americana/folk or instrumental person, so you're not going to get a lot of head banging going on in here. Also missing are some of the techno pieces from the "Be Here Now" list, since there was much less all-out action sections in this one...
Here they are, with parenthetical references to sections where appropriate. NOTE: Parenthetical references may contain spoilers for the story.
"After Antietam," James Horner, from the Glory soundtrack (John's recovery in Cornwall)
"Flowers for Yulia," Max Richter (Sherlock's decline and time in the Mind Palace - Max Richter and Olafur Arnalds are my go-to writing music choices, so you'll see them both a lot on here)
"Dan: For Now I Am Winter," Olafur Arnalds (Sherlock's Mind Palace)
"Dan: A Stutter," Olafur Arnalds (John in Tunis; John and Lily)
"Have I Loved," Down Like Silver (Sherlock visits John in Cornwall)
"Freedom/Saorise, The Gloaming (the ending)
"Please Forgive Me (Song of the Crow)," William Fitzsimmons
"Quiet Joys of Brotherhood," Hannah Read (John tries to rescue Sherlock in the hospital)
"Dan: Reclaim," Olafur Arnalds (John leaves Sherlock to go to Moriarty)
"Darkening Sky," Peter Bradley Adams
"Lost in the Fog," Dirk Brosse
"Mother," Ninebarrows
"Put This Fire Out," Toni Childs (John's descent in Tunis)
"Shelter from the Storm (cover)," Joshua Hyslop (the ending love scenes)
"Cloudless," Peter Gabriel (John in Tunis)
"Trad: The Angel Gabriel," John Evanson; Grace Rossiter: Finchley Children's Music Group (Sherlock in hospital)
"Honor (for oboe and strings)," from The Pacific soundtrack (John and the SEALs)
"Falling Slowly," Elenowen
"You and I," Foy Vance (the ending)
Here are all of these, and hopefully none of them are iTunes locked. If they are, let me know and I'll find alternate links for those. (Note: This will expire in a week, so download now!)
