Park Bom/Donghae (2NE1/Super Junior)
Very mild PG. Part II of a series of Backstage Encounters.
There is absolutely no basis at all for this pairing (and this insane amount of cheese), only that I saw this picture of Bom with Haeum (Sean [of Jinusean]’s adorable little girl whom I am totally jealous of for no reason at all.
Really, none.) and immediately thought of Donghae. Free association? Don’t mind if I do~ plus, now that I think about it, this could totally work. Donghae + Bom = Haeum? ... Okay, maybe not. Just humour me? :)

Donghae is almost one hundred percent sure that he would make a wonderful father. Being who he is, however, he doesn’t tend to allow himself to nurture the possibility of having a family of his own. It doesn’t hurt for him to dream about it, though, so long as he doesn’t assume it’ll occur sometime in the near future.
Even so, sometimes the desire to take care of his own little brood creeps up on him at the most unexpected of times. Backstage at Music Bank when Sean and his family come by to visit 2NE1 is one of them.
One of the girls in 2NE1 is hoisting a little girl up into her arms when he enters the room, and he can’t help but stop to say hello - perhaps it’s a testament to his paternal nature, that children have always been an unexplainable weakness of his. “Who’s this beautiful girl?”
They both glance up at him, Bom with smiling eyes. They curve into crescents when she recognizes him, and Donghae has to remind himself that he’s talking about the girl in her arms.
“Say hello to Donghae-oppa, Haeummie.” A curl of long, brown hair falls across her arm, partially obscuring her face as she adjusts Haeum with a bounce, turning her to face him. Haeum is chubby-cheeked and adorable, though maybe a bit too old to be carried, and when she reaches out with an enthusiastic Hi!, Donghae can’t stop the happy grin that breaks out across his face.
He holds her little hand in his gloved one, jiggling it up and down as he makes a silly face, Haeum giggling at him. He uncrosses his eyes and glances towards Bom, and is caught unawares by her soft smile - bent over her and Haeum, he can see her eyes properly, and they’re pretty eyes, the expression in them startlingly gentle as she watches them.
The sight lets him imagine, for a moment, that they are not idol stars, and she could instead be his wife, and that Haeum is not Sean’s but their own beautiful girl. He imagines, for the briefest of moments, leaning in and kissing her deeply on their seaside porch, her hair sweeping across their faces and grazing his cheek, her face a perfect oval in the cradle of his hands. They would break apart at the impatient sounds of little Haeum wriggling between them, and her laugh would sound sweet in the springtime breeze.
“Bom-ah?”
Donghae leans away, letting go of Haeum’s small hand. It is the sound of Sean’s voice that Bom turns to, and it’s into Sean’s arms that Haeum returns, Bom brushing the girl’s fringe away from her forehead with careful fingers. They say their goodbyes and Sean walks away with Haeum waving wildly, leaving the two of them alone, and there’s a second of awkward silence before they both begin to speak at once.
“I don’t-”
“Do you-”
Before he can smile charmingly at her and gesture for her to speak, he hears the unmistakable Donghae! Let’s go! that calls him toward his band mates.
He smiles at her regardless, in apology rather than with charm, and bows. He considers reaching out and doing - something, he’s not sure what - but it would probably be too intimate for him to do so with a woman, especially one older than him. Instead, he wishes her a good day and luck on her performance, and tries hard not to let his gaze linger for too long on her pretty eyes when she says the same to him.
The whole interaction is pleasant and perfectly courteous, and when Donghae leaves, he does so with only a single backward glance. It catches the slight figure of a beautiful woman in a dress, the curl of her fingers delicate over her elbows, and leaves him with an odd feeling as he closes the door. The last thing he sees before it shuts completely is Bom reaching up to fix her hair, and the hollow in his chest almost feels as strange as seeing the empty space within the angles of her arms.
