All I have to say is that Julianne Moore should have won an Oscar for Magnolia. Granted she wasn't even nominated, but she should have been ( Read more... )

Well, if you mean it *didn't* deserve, I'm in agreement. Thought that movie was dumb.

Yep, that was what I meant. (-: That year Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption were both nominees for Best Picture. Also, Tom Hanks beat out folks like Morgan Freeman (Shawshank) and Nigel Hawthorne (Madness of King George) for Best Leading Actor. There was a similar travesty in Best Director.

I was scandalized when Naomi Watts wasn't nominated last year for The Painted Vail. She was so good in that.

Also, Jennifer Connelly shouldn't have won for A Beautiful Mind. I really think Marissa Tomei should have won Best Supporting Actress that year for In the Bedroom.

I love that scene in Magnolia with her in the drugstore yelling at the guy.

I agree with you that Julianne Moore deserves an Oscar, though I much preferred her in Far From Heaven.

Why disappointed? And I need to rewatch it too, it's been years. I just remember how beautiful it was, from the changing leaves to the clothes.

Well, it was more about race relations than having a gay husband in the 50s (I thought the homosexual element would be more prominent though). I remember watching it on DVD I think -- I liked the director's commentary portion.

So, my only real dissapointment was that the homosexuality element wasn't that significant :)

Oddly enough I hated Magnolia the first time I saw it (in the theatre), but loved it after re-watching a few times.

His acceptance speech may have been memorable, but Cuba Goodiing Jr does not deserve to have an oscar on his mantle.

Well, in fairness, his career since Jerry Macguire has been pretty much non-existant!

He has nice buns though.

You make it seem like Gay Cruise was an utter piece of crap.

It has Horatio Sans.... how could it go wrong?
