I am really happy with how things are going. I am learning quite a lot already. Weird thing is, I am always exhausted because I am always busy, but when I get in a class room I am totally awake and eager to hear everything the professors have to say. I guess I have finally come to school for the purpose of learning. That was never my purpose before, merely a benefit that came with college life.
I started my research yesterday. I work with shit. It doesn't smell so bad in the lab, but after being around it all day, you certainly carry the smell back home with you. The prof I am working with has already given me a lot of responsibility already, so I will be learning a lot quickly. A lot about shit. And I get to present on the project in a few months too!
Band is great. I was a bit apprehensive about the time commitments and everything, but it is so much fun to be in a trumpet section again that I don't care how much time it takes.
The people in my program are a lot cooler than I thought they would be. I made the mistake of fearing the engineer-stereotype, but environmental engineers don't match that stereotype. For one thing, there are women in it. Also, the students come from all over the world. Most of the American ones were off backpacking Europe last summer just like me. And they actually are up for doing fun things now and then! I still plan to meet non-engineers, but I won't snub my classmates.
