Well, it looks as if things are going to turn out allright...at least for now.
I've been able to keep the ritual of going to the gym 6 days a week going (except when sick) for about three weeks now. I read somewhere that it takes about three weeks of doing something on a constant basis for it to become ingrained as habit. So, for once I'm indoctrinating myself with a healthy habit. Splendid...
Moreover, now going to the gym is more fun. Why, might one ask? Because UB recently installed cardio machines that each have a TV on the unit. This essentially means that I can watch Food Network while exercising. AH-HA!!! I've also been getting back in the water again. For those of you who so not know, I used to be a competition swimmer when I was younger. This stopped when I moved to Florida and things kinda went downhill with regard to my health after that. When I swim laps nowadays, I feel like a beached whale. This has been difficult to deal with, but I'm slowly getting back into it. Not to mention the fact that there is an olympic size pool here..which is pretty sweet.
On a culinary note, my plating skills seem to be randomly increasing i.e. I'm now caring more and more as to how my food looks on the plate. It really is true what some food pundits say...one eats with one's eyes first. As an example, I was playing with a musk melon the other night and created a warm yogurt sauce using honey and strawberry preserves. The color, and the fact that I was using honey, reminded me of nectar. So, I arranged the melon slices to look like a blooming rose and put the sauce in the middle, where I presume the honeybee takes the nectar. It came out well presentationwise, and the flavors were dead on. Perhaps its receipe worthy, just in case I actually apply for next foodnetwork star.
Law school is beginning to make sense to me. The writing assignments are pretty easy and the readings, although high in volume, aren't that difficult to understand. I'm a little worried about this, because many of my friends at other law schools are having more trouble than I. Maybe this means that I'm missing something? Who knows. All I can do, really, is be prepared for class and get ahead whenever possible, I guess. My Bar/Bri job begins on Sunday. I'm kinda excited to do this, as I will get the course for free. Also, I've been considering being a C.A. next year for the law school UB apartments. It means free room and board (plus $500 a semester in stipend).
Rosh Hashana was this past week (I hope that the jews enjoyed their yantif and the goys enjoyed their day off...if they got it). I went to Hillel shul and found it a bit strange...but enjoyable nonetheless. I get to see my family for Yom Kippur this weekend (boo fasting...yay redemption and BREAK FAST!!!) Ah...delicious smoked fish, bagels, and other tasty NY area Jew treats! I'm hopeing that I get a little ahead in my work so that I don't have to worry about not using electricity this weekend.
I've recently fallen back in love with string instruments. Violin and viola to be more exact. music.download.com has become my new best friend, as I have been able to expand my musical horizons. I'm still looking for that cd with Patrick Stewart narrating poetry over Vivaldi. I saw it in B&N and simply could not stop laughing.
I concur with Kathryn in her missing Brandeis friends. It seems a little difficult to create a new social circle when I really don't care to do so. Sure, I'm friendly to people...but I really don't go out so much. Right now, I just don't want to. Not to mention that my loan check hasn't disbursed yet. Maybe I'll have a dinner party next week. Yeah...that might be fun.
