Okay, I like sour grapes. So it's gratifying to see Bush learn that many people understand that compromising with an arbitrary point is worthless. Bush, and worthless hand-puppet Treasury Secretary John Snow, are asking for compromise from everyone else.
My man, Chuck Grassley (as a former Iowan, I still think of him as my guy), came forward to suggest that the whole issue of personal accounts is negotiable. Okay, he's a high-ranking Republican. Wow. Which way's the wind blowing?
Presidents define themselves sometimes by what they accomplish, and sometimes by their failures. Bush has talked big talk about having "touched the third rail of American Politics." How much back-pedaling is he going to do in the next few months?
