I'm watching the Democratic debate. To be honest, I haven't watched more than bits and pieces of any of the debates, Dems and Republicans, so I haven't formed an intelligent opinion on any of the candidates. This is rare for me, as I'm usually on top of these things. Some friends have tried to guage my opinion or debate me on the candidates, but I see no point in touting my uninformed opinion. To debate the candidates on emotion, which so many people tend to do, seems a bit pointless to me. Debate the issues not the rhetoric.
Part of my lack of interest in the national political scene though, has to do with my job as a reporter covering local politics. When I see so much locally that goes on behind the scenes that will never see the light of day -the machinations, the lies, the backstabbing, the grandstanding opportunistic nature of so many politicians - and because so few political leaders will be honest about the things that matter most, it only increases my cynicism for politics in general. I tend to watch TV news with a more jaded eye. With the spin so obvious, it makes me wonder, who is buying the crap so many in the media are dishing out?
If anyone wants a taste of how politics REALLY work behind the scenes, I can offer no truer example than the HBO series, The Wire. It captures the nature of politics and humanity so perfectly. It is sad, tragic and beautiful all at once.
Anyway, back to my thoughts, I'm watching the debates, and noticed that Clinton and Obama each take breaks during MSNBC's commercial breaks. I had this vision of Rocky Balboa's trainer-type behind the stage coaching each of the candidates between breaks. "Go on, give 'em hell!"
A long way to go for a lame Rocky reference, but hey, it's late, I'm beat.
But, hey, new comics!
First, over at
Todd and Penguin, is Todd about to bite off more than he can chew?

Taking Up Space, is the comic which I meant to post Monday, but somehow botched the upload. Go check it out, it's one of my favorites.
