I got back home on sunday evening quite late and well still really haven't recovered just yet, not helped by the fact that ive been at work and haven't stopped at all since i returned. And to add to all that i now have a sore throat and its really not funny.
If you want to use any of my pictures please ask first thanks
I went to Sex, Wales and Anarchy with Lisa and Jann, we arrived at the Coal Exchange at 1pm an hour before the show was scheduled to start as we thought there was going to be a huge que. We were really surprised to be the first people there. Saw Gemma painting one of the boards for the graffiti work as aparently Gareth had wanted another coat on them.
We then went inside after Jann had been inside on a scouting mission to see if we could sit down as Lisa needed to be sitting down. While sitting in the foyer Gareth walked passed with a coffee and he was wearing his glasses and looked incredibly sexy all in Black. He smiled and went on his way to finish getting things set up.
We were then asked to leave not long after by Justine, who told us we couldn't sit inside. so we went to sit on the steps outside and met up with several people we knew from online. Jimmy & Ruthie Bell, their daughter Julianne, Carol-Anne and the two girls who were staying in Ty Rosa with us in the apartments, Kelly and Bryony and Kath :)
When we went inside at just after two we were given green wristbands for our all day passes and we then went in and grabbed a table by the stage and the bar ;)
Gareth came out not long after and basically gave us a brief intro into what Sex, wales and Anarchy was about and told us that if there was any of the art or music ect during the day that we were interested in finding out more about them where to go. He also thanked us all for coming and said that he was glad that there was more than twenty of us.
At this stage Gabriel came over to me to borrow my Girl Number 9 DVD as James Moran had yet to arrive and they needed a copy of the film to show in the Film Lounge and i'd agreed to lend him it incase James was delayed.
We sat and talked for a little while before myself, Lisa and Jann made our way to the Spoken Word lounge where Gareth was doing a reading alongside Peter Williams.
This reading was very good, and the lounge where it took place was very intimate indeed. a battered leather armchair and some sofa's made up the lounge and a single lamp illuminated the room. I was asked to close the door by Gareth as there was alot of noise coming from outside, and then they began their readings. Gareth made some comment before hand that the room was going to become a sex lounge or something to those effects before the reading while he made himself comfy in the armchair.
about 2 minutes into the reading a group of girls came in late and i personally thought this was very rude considering the reading had already started but that's just me. Gareth also didnt look impressed but he kept reading as did Peter.
After this came a selection of readings from a rather talented lady called Mab Jones. she was really funny and i went on to buy a book of her poetry afterwards. Have yet to get a chance to read it since coming home. But i will certainly do.
After this i made my way back into the Main Hall to listen to the set by Sunrise Sunset, she was pretty cool and had some nice songs.
After this it was time for the Q & A session with James Moran & Gareth where they were discussing Girl Number 9. the processes involved in making it and a couple of other things.
It was a very interesting panel. I'm just sad that i'm way to shy for public speaking and such and couldnt think of a question to ask either of them.
When this pannel finished it was to be time for the Spoken Word short story contest winner to be read by gareth. He announced before hand that Gabriel would be showing the teaser trailer for Casimir Effect. Myself and Kath chose to stay where we were as we didnt want to loose a second seat at a table and as the trailer is online we gave it a miss on the day. Plus used it as an oportunity to ask about stuff we'd bought via ebay ect to Justine.
The short story reading was very cool. i didn't win sadly but still never really expected to. lol my story from what Gareth was saying about the word counts ect would have been rejected cause it was too long and he really didn't want to sit for so long reading on the main stage of what was the music area or words to that effect.
Gareth still had his glasses on here and had had most of the day which was really nice added bonus for me cause i think he looks incredibly sexy in them.
After this Lisa and Jann went back to the hotel as Lisa wasn't feeling well. So me and Kath decided we were going to go and talk to James Moran as he had said on Twitter a few days prior to the event that he would sign my copy of Severance or Girl Number 9.
He was absolutely lovely and signed the DVD and posed for a photo, i'm pulling a stupid face cause im laughing as he was trying to kneel down on the floor next to me cause he's really tall. And well given the fact that he had not long ago propositioned Gareth on stage and done the whole down on his knees thing there my mind went in the gutter.
After this and a mass exodus to the ladies, me and Kath had planned to check out the Film Lounge but things didnt go according to plan when a friend of Kath's who'd been with us while speaking to James Moran, passed out and had a minor fit in the corridor, which resulted in me Shouting Gareth who was behind me near the gents talking to someone, when he didnt hear me Kath grabbed him and we then both asked him to get a medic, and to give him credit he didnt hesitate, he made his way very quickly to get someone for us, even making sure to push a girl away who was trying to hug him, politely as he told them he needed a medic.
Much of the afternoon was then spent trying to sort the friend out and make sure she was seen by Paramedics who were called, although you can't make someone do something they dont want.
So yeah missed all the afternoon events. Left at about 6 to go and take said friend to the train station and then to get some food. Before getting changed for the evening gigs which included sets from Bad Moon Rising, Lethargy and Blue Gillespie.
when i got back there had been artwork in the foyer i liked that i wanted to buy so it took a while to locate the artist so i could purchase the two i had fallen for. Turns out they were by the drummer Shane, from Bad Moon Rising.
Didn't really get the chance to talk to him properly about the artwork cause whoever was on stage first after the brief break where Blue Gillespie had gone up to the Mardi Gras, was very loud and dispite only being the other side of the table and right down the back of the hall i couldnt hear anything.
Once i'd gotten the artwork i made my way back to the table and sat to listen to the music.
the evening music sets were very good, i was particularly taken by Pun Ra which wouldnt normally be to my taste but they were very good, even if the lead singer was a bit rude in his attempts to get us up on our feet. But to be fair Gareth gave equally aswell when he came out.
after the sets from Death of Her Money, Bad Moon Rising and Pun Ra, Gareth took to the stage once more while Blue Gillespie set up their equipment.
He then did a brief auction to help raise funds for Sex, Wales and Anarchy and sold off the infamous Bunny Slippers, which Carol-Anne won back. Girl Number 9 dvd which both he and James Moran had signed, a copy of Consequences also signed by both and an exclusive Casimir Effect print that was limited to just the one at the event.
Gareth descirbed the picture as a handsome man that looked like Ianto Jones, before proclaiming that "Ianto is Dead!"
they also auctioned off a SWA map, some magazine that Gareth had been interviewed in and a pair of Welsh Boxer Shorts that Rhys from Blue Gillespie modelled. Jann was lucky enough to be the winner of these.
After the auction it was time for Blue Gillespie's set at which stage the guys didnt have any trouble getting pretty much everyone on their feet.
Their set was fantastic and amongst a couple of partial videos that i took i did take some pictures and even ventured closer to the stage. I'm naturally nervous in this sort of environment so dont normally get close. but i ended up standing right next to their speakers, and i could feel the vibrations through the floor lol and yeah it was so loud but cool.
I was happy to see that they played my favourite songs Fingered and Tripout. Not that they weren't all fantastic. Was a really great set.
After they had finished their set it was time for the final band Lethargy, which were awesome. I really enjoyed this band alot. During this a girl on our table Becca, ended up needing medical attention, so i went to the bar to get a first aider and then after she was seen by them Jann called for an ambulance and she was sent on her way. She was ok in the end we found out later.
But yeah the night then came to an end and as we were saying out goodbyes Gareth came back onstage and thanked us all for staying to the end, afectionally called us all F***ing C**** and told us that they had broken even so that there would be a Sex, Wales and Anarchy 4. He also told Lethargy that they had played an awesome set.
Jann, Me and Kelly got a taxi back to ty rosa and tried not to make too much noise going in as both Lisa and Bryony were there and had been for some time as they were both unwell.
